Two new cases in Queensland overnight - both in hotel quarantine. There are still 26 active cases and 20,615 tests were conducted since yesterday. @9NewsQueensland
.@AnnastaciaMP confirms genomic testing has linked six cases of the UK COVID strain: The returned UK traveller, the hotel cleaner and her partner and the father and daughter from yesterday.
Queensland Government says all six people stayed on the same hotel floor at the Grand Chancellor but not in neighbouring rooms - there is concern about the "cluster".
Another 129 guests at the Grand Chancellor will be moved from to other hotels and be re-tested. 226 staffers at the hotel will also be contacted & put into quarantine as a precaution. 219 guests who left the hotel since December 30 will also be quarantined and tested.
In the first move of its kind, @AnnastaciaMP has suggested Australia needs to re-examine how returned travellers are processed in hotel quarantine systems, given the UK COVID strain is more infectious.
The sixth person, which I missed in this previous tweet, is the partner of the returned UK traveller.
To recap: ANYONE who entered the Grand Chancellor Hotel since December 30 (when the UK traveller entered quarantine) will be contacted, has been urged to be tested immediately and should isolate. Floor 7 of the hotel is the affected zone - but @qldhealthnews is examining everyone
CHO still pushing the testing message for anyone who visited the alert venues in Calamvale, Sunnybank Hills, Maleny & Acacia Ridge - even if they don't have symptoms. Authorities have now located 406 close contacts of the cleaner & her partner, 309 have negative test results.
