Last night the federal government killed a woman whose parents rented out as a sex slave for her ENTIRE childhood and beat her to the point of severe brain damage.
Nothing about this was justice. We all have blood on our hands today, America. Every single one of us.
From the time she was a child, Lisa Montgomery learned that the only time the beatings and the rapes would stop was when she was pregnant. She learned to claim pregnancy as a way to survive.
The crime she committed was a DIRECT result of this trauma. We murdered her anyway.
The debate surrounding the death penalty should NEVER be about whether the person deserves to die.
It’s about whether we, as a nation, deserve the right to kill them.
After failing Lisa Montgomery for her entire life, how can we think we deserve that right?
They didn’t even allow Lisa Montgomery the comfort of a final prayer before they murdered her.
While our elected officials commit crime after crime with impunity, they murdered a literal torture victim who was too mentally disabled to understand what was happening to her.
Jesus Christ. Oklahoma doesn't even have a *statewide* rollout plan and is leaving it up to the counties to organize their own individual vaccine rollouts.
My county is using a free SignUpGenuis page to sign people up for vaccines—which has no verification or data security.
I'd ask why Oklahoma's Secretary of Digital Transformation & Technology didn't point out how problematic this is, but @GovStitt appointed someone to the position with no digital background & he's busy getting indicted for fraud, so....fun!
My sister-in-law was taken advantage by a predatory for-profit college in 2017. The school moved campuses to the other side of the city mid-semester (a HUGE problem for low-income students) & the teacher quit. 90% of the class, including my SIL, failed their licensing test.
When my SIL signed up for their program, their finance office told her they could get her a govt grant that would pay back the entirety of her ABSURD tuition loan. That, of course, was a lie.
Now they’re saying they “don’t remember” telling her that.
What happened is that you hired a far right activist—a self identified former "Ann Coulter fangirl"—masquerading as a reporter, and then published the propaganda she knowingly churned out.
Readers deserve to know how, out of the 10.6 million people living in Georgia, Elaine ended up interviewing both a Republican operative (& son of a Trump appointed ambassador) AND someone closely tied to GA state GOP—all without knowing who they were.
As @ParkerMolloy & @MattGertz point out, however, Elaina Plott isn't the only issue in the NYT's political reporting chain-of-command. Patrick Healy (her boss/the guy defending her) also has a history of biased, sexist, & bizarre political "reporting" 👇
In June, Norman, OK cut the police dept. budget by $865,000.
In retaliation, an NPD officer doxxed a female city council member, to "teach her a lesson".
On Saturday, her duplex was broken in to & her neighbor—mistaken as her—was brutally raped.
Norman PD have acknowledged that an officer doxxed the city council member. But they say her address is "public information" & are refusing to even discipline the officer, much less fire him.
They also claim that the rape victim suffered "minor injuries".
After breaking into her duplex, the rapist dug his elbow into the her neck, pushed her into the wall, & said, "Maybe next time you'll learn your lesson."
Again, this is after a NORMAN POLICE OFFICER posted her home address publicly in the context of "teaching her a lesson."
Despite Donald Trump's frequent invocation of "The Troops" when defending the bigoted things he says & does, he has disregarded military members' safety & well-being time & time again.
So let's talk about all the ways Trump has "respected" the troops while in office. (THREAD)
1/ In May, Trump tried to end National Guard deployments 1 day before the deployed service members would have received the federal benefits they had earned.
It was only under immense public pressure that Trump changed course & extended their deployments. forbes.com/sites/andrewso…
2/ Despite severe PPE shortages at VA hospitals, in April the Trump admin seized 5 million masks ordered by the VA.
After pleas from VA Officials to return the masks, the White House sent them 500,000—10% of what they had ordered.
In honor of @realdonaldtrump's visit to Oklahoma and his sad crowd size that turned out to be approximately 98,6951 *less* than @parscale told him it was going to be, I bring you:
A Partial List of People Who Filled the BOK Center Better Than Donald Trump Could (THREAD)
1/ We have to kick things off (obviously) with the king of country himself, Mr. Garth Brooks, who packed the BOK Center (unlike @realdonaldtrump who didn't come close):
2/ Next up is @Metallica, who on January 18, 2019, set a record for BOK Center attendance with their very expensive concert (as opposed to @realdonaldtrump, who couldn't fill the BOK Center despite his rally being literally free to attend):
