JUST IN: Our new report “G.O.P. Ad Wars in 2020: Divisive, Anti-immigrant and Racist” analyzes thousands of 2020 campaign ads aired by Republicans and Republican-allied groups that attack immigrants, stoke xenophobia and inflame racism bit.ly/3oFLg9E
“Over the last 5 years, Donald Trump blew racist dog-whistles in his speeches & in his campaign ads, while most of his GOP loudly joined the chorus. Our ad tracking found racist, anti-immigrant advertising was present in Republican ads up and down the ballot.” - @ZacharyAMueller
“These divisive messages largely backfired. After a half-century of their potent use, a declining efficacy of the Republicans’ dog-whistle strategy is a profound and positive development.” - @ZacharyAMueller
“Immigrant-bashing as a wedge strategy is losing its edge. Meanwhile, those who funded these ads should take a serious look at what they've been paying to broadcast.” - @ZacharyAMueller
“From his first day of campaigning in 2015 to the last day of campaigning in the Georgia run-offs, Trump’s GOP has weaponized xenophobia, white grievance and white supremacy in service of power and plutocracy.” - @FrankSharry
“The good news is that this ugly dog-whistle strategy is losing steam. A multiracial, multiethnic and multigenerational majority of Americans reject this Republican wedge strategy.” - @FrankSharry
“The tectonic plates are shifting, the fear mongering works with a smaller slice of the electorate, and if the modern GOP won’t change, those brand name corporations who fund their campaigns should.” - @FrankSharry

Trump’s crowning achievement on immigration? Making Americans more pro-immigrant bit.ly/2LuffTz
"Trump’s xenophobia never got much traction outside the cul-de-sac of his base, and it backfired badly with the majority of Americans. It seems Trump’s relentless war on immigrants and refugees forced Americans to choose a side." - @FrankSharry
"The majority - a multiracial, multiethnic, multigenerational majority - did just that, coming down on the side of immigrants and refugees and in favor of the idea of America as a welcoming nation." - @FrankSharry
Trump’s border visit highlights another big lie fueled by Trump’s GOP enablers that led to violence bit.ly/3btInoF
"It’s a dark and fitting end to the Trump presidency that Trump will visit the failed monument that fueled his political emergence - a wall built on overt racism, dangerous lies and incendiary rhetoric that portrays immigrants as invaders and threats." - @_mariocarrillo_
"Trump’s immigration actions and rhetoric comes with a demonstrated body count." - @_mariocarrillo_
[1/10] As part of our 2020 ad tracker project, here is a break down of the worst #DogWhistleAd of the week.
Find out more about this campaign and if politicians in your district are using coded racist ads to get elected with our tracker: 2020adwatch.com
[2/10] Unsurprisingly, team Trump is at it again with a coded racist and xenophobic attack ad against Joe Biden. The ad makes a number of misleading, racist statements.
[3/10] The ad begins with a dubious and coded xenophobic boast about Trump’s swift action on COVID, referencing the travel ban from China.
Immigrant workers must be thanked and included in any #COVID19 recovery package and in America’s rebuilding bit.ly/3mMaB1f
"The COVID-19 crisis in America reminds us that frontline essential workers, many of whom are Latino, persons of color, and immigrants and refugees from across the planet, have borne a disproportionate share of the price in risk, infections and lives." - @douglasrivlin
"It has never been clearer that the health and well-being of any family is dependent on the health and well-being of all families." - @douglasrivlin
