After being tipped off by a sympathetic employee about imminent bans, the 3D printed gun & boogaloo communities on Keybase are in a tizzy. Keybase, now owned by Zoom, is finally banning homemade firearms & explosives content. A thread-
3D printed gun groups are some of the largest on Keybase, some with over 26k members. This affinity over guns is why some Boog groups moved there back in July as they were de-platformed elsewhere.
One of the high profile Boog arrests last Fall was for selling parts that are widely made using info from these Keybase channels. Ex: the WV guy selling 3D printed “wall hooks” - really drop-in auto sears (DIAS) that turn a gun into a fully automatic. justice.gov/usao-ndwv/pr/j…
The designers of the parts give their 3D plans cutsie names like “Yankee boogle” and “buenos DIAS”. Others share information and troubleshooting for “wind chime kits” - 80% complete AR parts hooked together with string to resemble a wind chime.
Other channels were full to overflowing with content about homemade bombs, including instructions for how to build delay timers, where and how to buy chemicals without appearing suspicious, and so forth.
After the acquisition by Zoom in May, (ostensibly to serve as an encryption bulwark since Zoom had so many security-related fumbles last spring) Keybase developers seemed to be pulled away from active development, thus turning Keybase into something of a digital “failed state.”
For replacement platforms, so far they seem to be choosing a variety of solutions. One is building their own instances of Rocketchat, two are using Matrix, one is going to remain in place and ride it out, etc.
Important to remember that technical features can drive adoption of a new platform. The reason these guys needed Keybase was for the file system (KBFS), the choice to go there wasn’t random. If you’re making files for 3D printing you need a way to share files; Keybase had that.

Here's a cache of flyers I've been collecting from different social media platforms (both mainstream & niche) advertising Jan 17 RW extremist anti-gov rallies in state capitals. I started collecting these on Nov 23. Couple people have asked for them, so here is the collection. ImageImageImageImage
I drew the lines on so they would be less likely to be used as propaganda. ImageImageImageImage
While most are targeting state capitols, some of them were for specific local areas. ImageImage

No, NYT. This is an incorrect and harmful overly simplified characterization and also stop quoting this pathological woman-hater. He literally wrote a piece of garbage six days ago calling women slaves of satan. splcenter.org/fighting-hate/…
Link if anyone needs it. nytimes.com/2020/11/20/us/…
This person with 200k followers appreciated my tweet so much they decided to write one just like it 7 hours later. It's so fun when you find someone else with the exact same take on the 12th paragraph of a two-day old NYT story!

Here's a pretty interesting story you might have missed. Back in the 1990s, Neo-Nazi David Wolfgang Hawke made a bunch of money as one of the early "spam kings", converted it into gold bars & buried it somewhere. 1/
After losing a spam lawsuit to AOL, Hawke's parents' land was dug up to settle the suit but the gold was never found. Hawke went on the run and was living under an assumed identity in Squamish as a progressive Canadian vegan rock climbing pick-up artist called "Jesse James". 2/
The body of "Jesse James" was found burned in a car 3 years ago and has just last week been established to be Hawke. bc.ctvnews.ca/mobile/man-fou… 3/

I'll use this thread to tweet some today about the Alamance County Trump Convoy (co-sponsored by the dregs of neo-Confederate hate group ACTBAC & Alamance Cty Young Republicans).
So far the only interesting thing is that the Trump Hate Convoy is attracting some Facebook spammers running video scams. Here are some fellows all abbreviating their names "Md" who claim to be livestreaming on some sketchy site and are filling the comments section.
The FB event page has now attracted an additional scammer, going by Sumon, who is using yet another pastebin-type markdown site to promote ads. Meanwhile the Hate Convoy organizers are too busy lining up their toy trucks to moderate the page. I'm rooting for the scammers, ngl

I've been wondering which media sources have been pumping Facebook full of anger about "antifa" for the past 30 days. Here's a breakdown of the data. Let's start with the Crowdtangle leaderboard. What do we learn? Image
(1) The "antifa" Facebook leaderboard is absolutely dominated by right-wing and far-right-wing media, in particular Ben Shapiro and David J Harris Jr, each of whom got more than a million interactions with their "antifa" posts.
(2) In fact, as shown by the performance column, stories about "antifa" do up to 7 times better than most posts on right-wing Pages (30-day basis). (3) Trump has a big audience, but his posts about antifa don't do nearly as well as those from Shapiro and David J Harris Jr.

The statement from Facebook in your #5 tweet is a hamfisted, pitiful attempt at both-sidesism. I am not aware of the reach of IGD and Crimthinc on the FB platform, but I suspect that Facebook is not their main avenue of outreach so I hope that ... 1/4
..the practical damage from this action will be minimally disruptive. However, it is an incredible slap in the face to these organizations, both of which have painstakingly grown themselves from standalone websites - and in Crimethinc's case from zines - and which have ... 2/4
