Over 400 juvenile lifers in Maryland will die in prison because this one of the sad, shameful states that still hasn't abolished life without parole, though it's unconstitutional.
Here is a thread on how you can help. And yes, this can help #FreeAdnan
The Juvenile Restoration Act will be heard in committee next Thursday and if passed it will finally abolish life without parole for juveniles. FYI, it's no coincidence the vast majority of juvenile lifers in MD are Black. 82%
All you have to do is some copy and pasting, will take two minutes. Send one single email to the Judiciary Proceedings Committee:
Copy and paste this message into an email with the subject line "juvenile justice in Maryland" and add your name to the bottom of course:
"Dear Judicial Proceedings Committee, I am writing to urge you all to fully support the Juvenile Restoration Act (JRA).
It is urgent to hold a hearing early and to vote to get this bill out of the Judicial Proceedings Committee as soon as possible. This legislation takes an important step towards constitutional compliance as Maryland has been imposing extreme sentences on juvenile offenders
to get around giving juveniles life without parole.
The Juvenile Restoration Act should not be in competition with other criminal justice reform, rather it is complementary
and will only enhance the effectiveness of the State’s Attorneys’ offices (as noted in Ms. Marilyn Mosby’s press conference on 12/7/20). Many rights are attached to this piece of legislation that are not offered through other forms of relief (i.e., the court must grant counsel,
must grant a hearing, must take factors into consideration as related to characteristics of youth etc.). Six-hundred individuals convicted as juveniles and emerging adults have been released on parole across the country from similar legislation and the recidivism rate is zero (0)
with only two technical violations. Those convicted as juveniles deserve a second look.
I will be watching this bill’s progress,it is time to put justice back in criminal justice in Maryland.
Sincerely,

I'm not trolling, I'm making an observation that you have confirmed @AmerZahr. So thank you for not gaslighting me. And I don't think our community should feel bad about prioritizing I/P, but I do think we shouldn't blindly pick the most pro-Palestinian candidate.. 1/
Warren is a stronger candidate across all other issues and a more effective legislator, and lags only slightly behind Sanders on I/P. But that difference is enough for our community to throw most of their weight behind Sanders and I think that's a mistake 2/
I also should have been explicit that I was trying to point out there is no mystique behind why Sanders is the candidate for Muslims and that the entire "look we are voting for a Jew aren't we great" narrative is disingenuous. We don't care 3/
We were invited to a dinner/game night/celebration of Nunu being cancer free last night and I made haleem in the instapot for it! Haleem is a rich stew w beef, lentils, barley, made usually in winters. I decided to video tape step by step to share. 1/
You'll need 2 lbs of boneless beef, thawed, rinsed, drained. You can use boneless chicken but beef is more authentic. First, brown a couple of sliced onions in generous amounts of vegetable oil. @ChuckWendig this is the best way to do batches of onions. 2/
Remove half the onions and add your meat with some salt, garlic and cumin seeds. Employ a small child to occasionally stir it. 3/
Occurred to me that since today is Easter, I'd share what Muslims believe a bit about Jesus' life & death, or as he is referred to in the Quran, Isa (pbuh). It's the tradition that after the name of any prophet of God we say peace be upon him, hence (pbuh). #Easter
Muslims believe in the Virgin Birth and Jesus is called the "Word of God" and "the Messiah" in our scripture. He is called the "Word" because we believe God said "Be", and Jesus was created through this command.
We believe he raised the dead and healed the sick by the permission of God. We don't believe he is divine, he is one of 25 prophets mentioned in the Quran and one of tens thousands of messengers of God sent to mankind over time, all with similar messages for humanity.
19 years ago to day Hae Min Lee left Woodlawn high school and disappeared. Nearly a month later her body was found in Leakin park in Baltimore city. 3 years ago #Serial brought the story to the world. But there is much more to the story than Serial. Thread: 1/
Adnan Syed, 17, her ex, was arrested and convicted Of her murder. We have been fighting for 19 years to prove his innocence. Last year his conviction was thrown out but the state filed an appeal and we are now waiting for that appeal to be decided. Burn in hell @thiru4baltimore
Also last year I wrote a critically acclaimed, New York Times best selling book with contributions from Adnan. In this thread I will refer to portions of the book to talk about the things that were not covered by #Serial.
Going to take this opportunity to talk bout Jesus. As a Muslim. Pass it on to your nearest Islamophobic friend, neighbor, or relative

Jesus is mentioned in the Qur'an, the holy scripture of Muslims, 25 times. Muhammad is only mentioned 5 times by name. There is entire chapter about Jesus and his mother, Mary. The chapter is called "Mary". Like, literally.
Muslims believe in the virgin birth of Jesus. In the Islamic tradition, God said "Be", and Jesus was. The angel Gabriel announced it to Mary, who was reasonably worried and stressed at having a baby and what people would say.
