Happy World Religion day! 🌍Celebrated on the third Sunday of January every year, the day aims to raise awareness about other’s beliefs. With help from our 2011 census data, here are some facts about religion in England and Wales 👇
Firstly, did you know that Harrow in Greater London has the highest proportion of religious people? 82.4% said they have a religion #WorldReligionDay
Meanwhile, Brighton and Hove is the local authority with the lowest proportion of religious people, with 48.8%
Rural areas are slightly more religious than urban areas, with an average of 68.4% of people saying they are religious. This is 0.9% higher than urban areas (67.5%)
The local authority of Mendip is home to Glastonbury, the self-proclaimed ‘quirkiest town in England’.

Mendip has the 5th highest percentage of people following ‘Other’ religions. Over a third of those claiming other religions (34%) classified their beliefs as Pagan
The area with the most diverse range of beliefs is Lewisham! It’s the only local authority with people following every belief listed on the census

The population in this area during the 2011 census was 1,929 – made up of 817 households in 2011

Luckily there were 39 people working in the accommodation and food services who could help provide the weary traveller with food and shelter Text showing the population as 1,929
In 2011, the area had 161 people working in agriculture, forestry and Fishing and 49 working in construction and building trades

Sadly, the census doesn’t record how many converted stables there are
