I love Mexico. Can't believe I wasted four years of my life in Europe when Latin America was just next door.

All the dweebs who fantasize about BASED HUNGARY or BASED POLAND or BASED RUSSIA, you should reconsider and head down south.
"B-B-BUT IT'S DANGEROUS!"

You're an American living off an American salary, so you can afford to live with rich Mexicans, take taxis, and have an apartment with a doorman.

The dangerous parts of Mexico have nothing going for them anyway, same as the dangerous parts of the U.S.
"B-B-BUT YOU CAN'T DRINK THE WATER!"

You can't drink the water in much of Europe, either. Some European countries where the tap will make you sick:

- Ukraine
- Albania
- Serbia
- Italy (I'm serious)
- Ireland (I'm serious)

Buy bottled water or a Brita filter. Don't be cheap.
"B-B-BUT IT'S NOT HUWYTE!"

Mexico is probably whiter than the U.S. at this point. All the mestizos went north.

Northern/western cities like Monterrey and Guadalajara are whiter than London, Paris etc.
More importantly, identity politics haven't made it to Mexico yet. White people are still high status and crime is purely economic, not race-based. You can be a big fish in a small pond (Latin America) or a small fish in a big pond (Europe).
Other points in Mexico's favor:

Easy residence/citizenship for Americans. Trying to get a residency permit in Europe is like pulling teeth. Latin America makes it easy for your dumb gringo ass to stay forever. They want your money and your phenotype.
No pandemic restrictions. Europe is closed to Americans right now. They'll probably make you get the vaggscene when they reopen.

Mexico has zero pandemic entry restrictions. No PCR tests, no quarantine. You can fly in right now and you'll be greeted with a smile.
No mass lockdowns. Most of Europe is under some kind of lockdown. Thailand locked down totally a couple of weeks ago.

In Mexico, "lockdown" means that Starbucks is closed. That's it. Everything else is open. Also, nobody will give you shit for not wearing a mask.
White God Factor.

The cache of being a Westerner or American is dying in Eastern Europe, outside of Georgia, Armenia, and Albania.

In Latin America, the White God Factor is ingrained into the culture and it's never going away.
Weather.

Mexico is, shockingly, not sweltering hot all the time. Guadalajara and Mexico City have pretty temperate weather; it actually gets fairly cold at night in the latter. The border area has hotter/colder weather because it's in the desert, but that's just one region.
Cost of living.

Mexico is on par with Eastern Europe and it's probably going to get cheaper since the dollar is performing well against the peso and poorly against the euro and non-E.U. currencies like the Hungarian forint.
Infrastructure. Mexico has better roads, Internet, utilities than much of Europe. I lived for nearly three months in an Albanian apartment that only had running water for a few hours a day. Mexico also has all the apps, corporate brands etc. that the U.S. has.
Cultural familiarity.

I'm not kidding when I say that white Americans have more in common with Latinos than they do with Europeans. There's still a learning curve if you move here, but it's less severe than in Europe (and definitely less severe than in Asia).
Also, you can enjoy the benefits of blending in AND having high status as a white person in Mexico.

In Europe, you can blend in, but you don't have high status. In Asia, you can have high status, but you won't blend in. Mexico lets you fade into the background and be ignored.
Latin America is more "trad" than Europe, if that's your thing. Outside of Argentina, Uruguay, and Mexico City, most Latinos don't give a shit about the woke bugaboos consuming the West.

Poland will legalize gay marriage by 2025. Trad Eastern Europe is a myth.
Things I don't like about Mexico compared to Europe:

- Lack of English fluency. Learn Spanish. It's easy. I'm already somewhat conversational after less than a month.
- Fat people (though European Mexicans are thinner).
- Lack of washing machines.
Overall, I highly recommend Latin America. It has all the upsides of Europe PLUS the upsides of Asia with few downsides.

Good thread. A $15 minimum wage will cause the already high unemployment rate to explode. Moreover, this unemployment increase will be concentrated among the sector of the population that is already ill-suited to learning new skills, basically creating an economic dalit class.
I used to work with unemployed factory workers in their fifties and sixties. Factory packed up and moved to Mexico and China, taking their jobs and pensions. The Labor Department tried to "retrain" them by running workshops on how to use email and MS Word to create resumes.
These are people who oftentimes don't even have a high school diploma and worked at the same factory their entire lives. Many don't own computers. And the glorious jobs they were being "retrained" for? Walmart. A $15 minimum wage would absolutely kill even that.

Anyone who talks about forming a right-wing third party to replace the GOP is terminally delusional.

Not ONCE in American history has a third party replaced a major party. It has literally never happened. You idiots certainly aren't going to pull it off.
Our current two-party structure dates back to the 1850's, when the Republican Party was founded.

People think the Republicans were a third party when they were founded. They were not. They were a major party from day one since they were founded by former Whigs.
The Whig Party, which was one of the two dominant parties from the 1830's to the 1850's, HAD ALREADY COLLAPSED by the time the GOP was founded.

The Republicans had instant credibility because they had former Whigs in the ranks and there was a vacuum from the Whigs' implosion.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has surrendered to Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh war. Mass protests have erupted in Yerevan (see thread).
Translation of the peace terms signed by Pashinyan. Armenian forces will cede control of Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan, which will be occupied by Russian peacekeeping forces. The Azeri-Armenian border will be opened for transportation.
Armenians rioting in Yerevan right now, demanding Pashinyan's resignation and the country to be taken over by the military.

mentioning Full Throttle earlier got me to thinking how much I don't like most energy drinks

all of them taste like Red Bull, aka they taste like cough medicine mixed with horse urine, and Full Throttle is the only stateside brand I like because it actually tastes good
there used to be an energy drink called SoBe No Fear that was the absolute best, but it was discontinued a decade ago

it was briefly revived in 2012 (I remember jumping for joy at seeing it in convenience stores in Washington and Oregon), then disappeared again
Europe is a mixed bag when it comes to energy drink selection

Sweden is the worst country I've ever been to, nothing but Red Bull

the U.K. is also bad, but Sainsbury's at least carries Monster Juiced, which is way better than regular Monster

Reminder that in the original color revolution (the 2000 Bulldozer Revolution in Serbia), Slobodan Milošević would have almost certainly won reelection had it not been for an army of NGO-trained rioters forcing him out of power. Image
Milošević's primary opponent did not win a majority in the first round of the presidential election. Albanians and Montenegrins, who were opposed to Milošević, boycotted the vote, and the runners-up were from right-wing parties who would have backed Milošević in the runoff.
TPTB knew that Milošević would have won the runoff, so they immediately set up a narrative that he was trying to "steal" the election in the hopes of forcing him out of power before the runoff could be held, complete with riots. They succeeded because Milošević was a wimp.

A problem with the proposed plan to have GOP state legislatures discount the popular vote and appoint GOP electors is that Congress has to approve the electoral vote count in a joint session. Democrats, being in control of the House, would have the numbers to reject the electors.
I presume at that point, it would move to a contingent election. Another problem there: a majority (26) of state House delegations are needed to elect a president. Republicans have only 25, Democrats 24, and one delegation (Pennsylvania) is split.
Republicans would have to convince at least one Democratic congressman from Pennsylvania to switch sides. Democrats could convince a GOP PA congressman to switch sides, but then you're at a 25-25 deadlock. This assumes that no state delegations change hand in the new Congress.
