As my college irresponsibly brings back almost our entire college, they put the traditional-aged students in suites at a high-end hotel to quarantine. Meanwhile, the non-trad age students like me- often working class/first-gen/moms/BIPOC are being denied equitable access to food
My college, which used to feed us all while STILL throwing away 1000's of lbs of food a week, now refuses to help students in my program access food security for our families. Seriously, they are denying CHILDREN food while doing this... @paigelav @HuffPostWomen
We need help. Our school does literally NOTHING unless they get bad press. They stand like a pillar of social justice but quietly hide this shit. We are tokenized daily here and cant get food. Please. PLEASE we just won the right to food access before COVID - we need this #Boost
@Kim_Janey Ada's need your help. You are such an inspiring alum of our program, you know HOW hard we work. Help us support Ada families.
#FoodSecurity for Ada Comstock Scholars has been lost yet again. Our win in March is now effectively rolled back as we can’t share access with our families & children - our entire support network. We need food justice at Smith NOW
Again I can’t confirm the closure is totally for our quarantine spaces but we only have one campus house allocated and it’s been confirmed students are currently there for move in quarantine. The hotel has been closed since before the earliest student return for spring
Smith is far from the “pillar of social justice” they have long claimed to be. The history of the treatment of Ada Comstock Scholars is more than enough proof, but there’s ofc an abundance for every marginalized community on this campus. We need food equity- now!
I’m a @YP4 2013 alum; a former fellow @YoungInvincible , partnered with @GatesUS @BillGates @gateseducation for FASFA reform, I’m a SLP Alum with @WomenEmployed , and had a good time one year with @thinkchicago too. All this to say I’m a leader and I know when something is wrong
This is very very very wrong. Our institution shouldn’t even be bringing almost the entire student body back to begin with - it’s entirely irresponsible, but we know it was for revenue- bc why else when there are four new and more threatening strains
They prioritize their rich alum and the endowments being comforted over the people in our program- not all of whom are looking to access this service right now. But for those of us who do need support with food, this is a huge deal.
And this is all on top of the fact that this decision is a full rollback from the agreements we had recently made before the pandemic started. So now- literally right now- people in our program are struggling to put food on the table. Even as some live on the same campus that
Denies them equitable access to dining. It’s cruel. There’s no other way to put it. It was bad enough that in our lounge they left food stamp application info and would direct us to that for food help- even as thousands of lbs are thrown yearly.
I’m formerly houseless and food insecurity is a big thing - as I’ve had to make a dollar stretch farther than imaginable when I had nothing.

Adas need support- we come here for that as it’s marketed to us. But it’s a different story once we arrive, this is simply one example
Please help support us and boost our messages- this shouldn’t even be a issue and yet here we are fighting for basic needs to be met while going to an elite college 🙃
