1 One question I have about Lazar centers around his missing birth certificate. Maybe @JeremyCorbell can clear this up & set me straight?
Lazar: "I think George Knapp was the first one that uncovered that. I mean, he saw my birth certificate disappear."
Rogan: "It disappeared?"
2 Lazar: "Yeah."
Rogan: "There was no record of you being born?"
Lazar: "Yeah, there was no record of that."
Corbell: "His mom tells me about that. It was frightening for her. He's got a real family, he's a real person. It was frightening for her."
3 From Tom Mahood's site:
(Dec. 20th, 1989 on The Billy Goodman Happening)
Lazar: "I made a routine request for my birth certificate, which I needed just for I.D. purposes, and I was told that it doesn't exist, I wasn't even born at that hospital. I sat on that for about a week
4 BL: "and just wondered, and then I began to inquire at previous jobs and also at other schools, and that information was also gone. And I got the idea that soon someone was going to disappear, so that's when I contacted the TV station and essentially let everything out."
5 Goodman: "Did you ever get your birth certificate?"
Lazar: "Nope."
(December 9, 1989, Lazar appeared on KLAS-TV w/Knapp)
Knapp: The reason u came forward with the information to begin with? Is it related to the fact that they were bothering you?
Lazar: "I sent in a request
6 BL: "for my birth certificate, and as it turned out it wasn't there anymore, that I wasn't born at the hospital! And that kind of got me wondering what's going on. I put in a request for some other information, previous jobs, and that was also gone, and
7 BL: "I thought something had to be done before I disappeared."
Mahood writes:
"After Lazar plead guilty to the pandering charge on June 18, 1990 in Las Vegas, the State of Nevada Department of Parole & Probation prepared a 'Pre-Sentence Report'. This report provides the court
8 Mahood: "with quite a bit of background data on the defendant to assist in sentencing.
"The report was prepared by Joy Mundy-Neal and dated July 27, 1990. Under the heading 'Social History', the report states:
'A certified copy of the defendant's birth certificate indicates
9 "'he was born on January 26, 1959 to the union of Albert Lazar and Phyllis Berliner (natural mother); however the defendant reports he was born on January 26, 1959 in Coral Gables, Florida, to unknown parents and was subsequently adopted by Albert Lazar and the former Phyllis
10 "'Berliner within the first few months of his life'.
Mahood: "When I first posted this installment of the Lazar Flaws on Usenet, I withheld the information on Lazar's adoption out of respect for his privacy. However in Gene Huff's response, (which I currently lack) he posted
11 Mahood: "the information that Lazar was adopted and that this was the cause of the difficulties in obtaining a certificate. Indeed, he stated it was Lazar himself that gave the probation officer the certified birth certificate.
"So in this case at least, there is a routine
12 "explanation for something that was initially portrayed as having very sinister overtones. There is nothing at all wrong with that, however this 'disappearing records' scenario has become a firm part of the Lazar story. Although Lazar no longer claims his birth records have
13 Mahood: "vanished, the story is still out there in the early books and interviews. It's never really been corrected, and seems to live on."
And it lives on because Lazar keeps talking about it. Jeremy, why didn't Bob explain that the birth certificate WAS found and he had it?
14 He should've told Rogan, right? He uses the missing birth certificate to strengthen his assertion that his college records were erased. Leaving out the fact that the birth certificate wasn't "disappeared" makes it look like he's not being up front.
