ππΎ a lot of new people here. So here's a few things to know about us: (y'all know we love threads)
We love Black people more than we hate white supremacy.
When we started organizing under this name in 2015, it was because received death threats as individuals. Tacoma didn't have a big protest scene, and it was hella easy for people to make us targets. As Black women, we needed to protest ourselves.
We love to see others organizing in Tacoma. You don't need our permission, we don't own shit. Figure out your lane and go.
At the same time, we understand that we've built a lot of trust in the community, and people will look to us for direction. So we have to make it clear what we are and aren't involved in. (Telling people to go at their own risk is not shade btw π€£)
We've protested and organized in plenty of other cities. But we don't go and belittle or tell people what they should and shouldn't be doing. So don't do that with us. (THAT was shade π€·πΎββοΈ).
When we say people over property we mean people over property, PERIODT. We are more concerned with this violent system than a window or spray paint. (We actually love spray paint π π).
Love and solidarity to all the organizers in Tacoma. We see you. Protect yourselves and take care of yourselves - we need you here with us to fight βπΎβ€οΈ
π not y'all saying people over property yesterday and then being mad at some broken windows today.
No, we didn't go to the protest for safety reasons, but we're also not losing sleep over some windows. They can pay for it with that increased police budget.
This is the same city that didn't blink an eye about Manuel Ellis. Have barely said anything about a cop running people over with his car, and wanted to cut money from the libraries and increase the police budget.
Manuel Ellis was killed in Tacoma, WA on March 3rd 2020. Today Is July 27th. On June 2nd it was clear that this case was being both covered up and neglected. (A thread)
The four officers who killed Manuel Ellis were placed on leave, and were allowed to return to work, even though an investigation hadn't been completed. They still haven't been fired.
The Tacoma City Manager has the power to fire them, and won't. With the exception of Mayor Woodards, Deputy Mayor Keith Blocker, and Council Member Catherine Ushka, the Council has been silent. They haven't put forward a motion to fire the officers.
#Tacoma Letβs welcome our new neighbors who are moving into the microshelters on 60th and McKinley! Residents are previously homeless, and will get temporary shelter provided by the City of Tacoma.
