Overall big quarter for Microsoft. Not really a surprise considering the current climate and shift to WFH and study-from-home.

Plus, that whole gaming thing is a nice distraction.

Cloud and commercial still dominating:

Microsoft earnings call is a go

teams.microsoft.com/_#/broadcastPl…
"It's not just you ... Microsoft's FY21 Q2 earnings call is down"
Well, this is awkward
Xbox doing enormous numbers

- $5B in revenue this quarter
- Series X and Series S biggest launch success in their history
- Xbox Live 100M MAUs
- 18M subscribers for Game Pass
It's funny when people make fun of LinkedIn, but it's printing money for Microsoft exceeding expectations this quarter (again)
During the call, no call outs to any specific Surface devices/sales or what drove revenue (Laptop Go is certainly more affordable, but unclear if it's doing well).
Next quarter:

Consumer: healthy demand expected for PCs to continue … still impacted by Win 7 EOL

Xbox: demand will still be strong and still constrained by supply (sorry if you want one!)
Next quarter expectations:

- Windows: Growth low single digits
- Surface: Growth mid to high teens range

MS: "We have executed well this quarter ... optimism in our roadmap for tomorrow ... "
Xbox Game Pass is now at 18M subscribers.

It was at 10M in April 2020 👀

Xbox Live gained 10M active users since April as well.

1/ There's an important distinction between cost and value.

One is a fact ("$800") and the other is subjective, an opinion ("I feel what I paid was worth it").

People often conflate the two making a judgement for others on the latter without consideration.
2/ Some of this has popped up with the Surface Pro X.

Many have complained about its price, when what they mean is the perceived value. That's fair.

I can't tell you something is worth it - that's a very personal decision.
3/ Some will say the Pro X even at $500 is "too much". You can't really argue against that, it's what they feel.

But you can argue on cost - simple comparisons between pricing.

I often hear an iPad Pro is cheaper than Pro X ergo, better, but it's just not true.
