Here's my initial take on the GameStop thing, hopefully it's visible.
Ok I want to answer the thing people have pointed to about "140% of the shares were short, how is that possible in a free market!" I see where people are getting that. That does not mean hedge funds invented fake stock to sell short. That literally isn't possible. cont
What it means is that SO many people want to take short positions (especially now that the price has been artificially inflated so high) that people are shorting it sequentially. So let's say I short 1 stock. That means I borrow 1 and then sell it. It could then be shorted again
It doesn't mean extra stock was invented, it just means that essentially 2 people are in a short position on the same stock at different prices. I know it's complicated but in the same way trade volume in a day can exceed float in rare circumstances..
As in 100 shares could be traded in a day even though there are only 50 shares, that just means people bought and sold multiple times in a day, essentially. It doesn't mean there are 50 additional "fake" shares. Same goes with people having short positions.

Missing some Tweet in this thread? You can try to
force a refresh
This Tweet went viral last week with @KamalaHarris's nomination as VP. Perhaps you saw it? It's nonsense, and it's incredibly harmful. I'll explain why. THREAD:
So, on the surface, it looks very compelling. First level fact check, yes CoreCivic is one of the 2 publicly-traded prison REITs. And yes, roughly speaking, the chart in the tweet does show an increase after the time of the #KamalaHarrisVP announcement.
But a quick google search yields another explanation. Unless you think Motley Fool is part of the conspiracy, it looks as though CoreCivic is being added to the SmallCap 600 index, which means mutual funds and ETFs have to buy it up...
Guys we don't know that Louis CK DIDN'T make things right. We don't know that he DIDN'T work to repair the comedy careers of several women who quit comedy because of him, start a scholarship for young women who want to be creative writers
Send a handwritten letter to each and every victim with a personalized message recognizing the actual actions he took and why they were wrong and that he DIDN'T develop a new set of self-critical material and deliver it to an audience who actually consented to see him and open up
about how shitty his behavior was and that all he wants to do is try to repair the wrongs and serve as an example to men... We don't KNOW that he DIDNT do that so he probably did ok jeez lay off
