Why was the excise duty hiked?

Tax Revenue

2020-21 Budget: ₹16,35,909 Cr
Year to date Nov’20: ₹10,26,055 Cr
Year to date Nov’19: ₹11,74,143 Cr

Excise Duty (Part of Tax Revenue)

Year to date Nov’20: ₹1,96,342 Cr
Year to date Nov’19: ₹1,32,899 Cr

Despite 48% Growth In Excise Duty Collection, Overall Tax Revenue is currently at -13% Growth Over Last year.

Revenue Expenditure

2020-21 Budget: ₹26,30,220 Cr
Year to date Nov’20: ₹16,65,200 Cr
Year to date Nov’19: ₹16,06,215 Cr

Despite -13% Reduction In Tax Revenue, Revenue Expenditure has increase by 4% over last year.

This shows government spending hasn’t reduced over last year.

Excise Duty was hiked to cover the Tax Revenue Deficit.

Yet another Flip Flop of DMK

Most print media including the Wire & News Minute had taken up the expansion of Adani’s Katupalli port.

The National Herald had also reported this with a political flavour. But vital details missing in all these.

The Kattupalli port received approval & began construction during the DMK Regime. Surprised to see questions posted by them now on the need of this port when chennai already has 2 ports. EIA submitted in 2008 by L&T and the port became operational in 2013 landmatrix.org/media/uploads/…

The EIA submitted in 2008 had clear mention of no fishing activity near the coastal areas.

The future expansion plan also was part of the initial proposal that was submitted.

Also find the proposed development plan. Now compare it with the initial proposal. No change at all.

அனைத்து கிராமங்களுக்கும் மின்சாரம் எடுத்து சென்றது கருணாநிதியின் சாதனை என்று ஆ ராஜா கூறுகிறார். கிராமப்புறங்களில் 100 சதவீதம் மின்மயமாக்கலை முன்னதே அடைந்த மாநிலங்களில் தமிழகமும் ஒன்றாகும் என்பதில் எந்த சந்தேகமும் இல்லை. ஆனால் அது திமுகவின் சாதனையா?

கிராமப்புற மின்மயமாக்கல் கார்ப்பரேஷன் (REC) 1969 ஆம் ஆண்டு மத்திய அரசால் உருவாக்கப்பட்டது. மேலும் REC இன் படி, தமிழ்நாட்டில் 100% கிராமங்கள் 1987ஆம் ஆண்டு தான் மின்மயமாக்கப்பட்டது. 1987ல் கூட அனைத்துக் குக்கிராமங்களுக்கும் மின்சாரம் சென்றடையவில்லை. recindia.nic.in/download/TAMIL…

1975-76 கிராமப்புற மின்மயமாக்கல் புள்ளிவிவர கணக்கெடுப்புகளின் படி, 8 ஆண்டுக்கு முன்னரே 14,502 கிராமங்கள் (குக்கிராமங்கள் உட்பட) மின்மயமாக்கப்பட்டதாக தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டள்ளது. அதாவது 14,502 கிராமங்களுக்கு 1967 க்கு முன்பே மின்சாரம் கிடைத்து விட்டது
