I just stepped outside, sniffed the morning air and said “Feels like snow.” like I am some kind of weather savant who can just smell a storm coming.

Yesterday I said to someone “Like these jeans? They were $20.”

I’m my grandfather now. I have become my grandfather.
...or maybe I just inherited the weather savant gene and it is finally expressing itself.

I’m going to put on my new $20 genes and go celebrate by driving 40 on the highway to Dunkin Donuts.
“$20 genes” was a Freudian slip.
p.s. after getting the first pair, I went back the next day and got another pair.

I now own $40-worth of $20 jeans.

When I was railing against the GameStop run up yesterday, this thread was why.

I’ve seen a bunch of these in my lifetime.

When my barber, my bartender and my 13-year old all mention a get-rich-quick opportunity, people are going to get hurt.

1/
People are reducing the players here to only two archetypes: billionaires and savvy Redditors.

A few billionaires will get clobbered. But they didn’t become billionaires by exposing themselves to ruin from one equity.

The hurt isn’t going to hurt them all that much.

2/
On the Reddit side, the ringleaders were all already holding GameStop stock or were leveraged into even bigger positions via stock options.

They stood to make a fortune from the masses joining in their play. And when the masses joined, they made a killing.

Adults under the age of 30 have never really seen the stock market go down.

That’s pretty wild when you think about it. The market has had a near continuous rise young people’s whole adult lives.
“Whole adult lives.”

Jeez, the snarking by people who don’t read is tedious.
The funny thing is that I posted this after having had several conversations lately with young people who are “playing the stock market” who all but laughed when I said “it’s going to go down at some point.”

They truly couldn’t imagine it after years of it only going up.

Here we goooo.

The inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris is underway.

I'm going to just follow long and comment under this thread rather than clog your timelines. Feel free to mute this post if not interested.

HERE WE GO!

As setup, I may or may not have opened a bottle of champagne after Fuckopotamus got shunted into a helicopter like a bag of wet laundry.

Okay, I did open the champagne and made myself a mimosa the size of a small child.

I regret nothing.

2/
I should also mention that I am running on about 30 hours without sleep. Staying up all night seemed like a good idea at the time.

Plus, I am shining like a new dime and it's a big day and I'm seriously into this.

So, booze and sleeplessness... I will apologize for nothing.

I read up on the last several men the federal government rushed to put to death this past month.

Sister Helen is 100% right. None of the defendants would have come anywhere near a death penalty had they had money and privilege.

1/
Take the person executed last night: Dustin Higgs.

Higgs, another man and a woman were involved in the murder of two people. The trio had picked the victims up and taken them to a desolate area where they were shot.

2/
The reasons for the shooting were unclear. To make their case, prosecutors offered a deal to Higgs’ two associates: testify that Higgs had orchestrated the killing and they would be charged with lesser offenses.

So, the two did.

Hahahahaha. This is fantastic. Database people, laugh with me here...

“When users deleted their posts, the site failed to remove the content and instead only added a delete flag to it.”

They just populated a flag!

Hahahha. They basically made the FBI’s job as easy as possible.
**and**

Parler required users to send in photographs of their real IDs to create an account.

**and**

The files from posted videos often include GPS metadata.

So, Parler recorded who the person was, where they were standing and then kept the post even after “deletion”.

Hahaha
The comedy:

1) Parler was likely just a complete trainwreck of an app because its creators only cared about making money

2) They built the FBI’s absolute dream app. Complete identification of users, location of many posts and retention of deletes.

Hahaha

People need to step back from the details and focus on the single, most damning point:

There was no legitimate, lawful reason for a defeated president to be summoning a mob to the Capitol.

His constitutional responsibility was to oversee a peaceful transition of power.

1/
We are losing sight of the simplest indictment.

A president who lost an election refused to accept his defeat and instead fomented insurrection.

A president violated oath and law at the moment when his duty most called for safeguarding our democracy’s sustaining principle.

2/
Donald J. Trump, having been defeated, led a two-month campaign in violation of the constitutional mandate that he effect a peaceful continuation of our democracy.

This is, in my mind, as vile a treason as any ever committed.

Impeachment is insufficient.
