I am relying on Martin F. Dunn's Online work as he has long been considered an expert on Metis matters by members of academia and the Metis.
Martin F. Dunn (1994, Papers 2) describes the Metis in the following way:
web.archive.org/web/2002091016… - It looks to me like Martin had a "Substantial Enough Indigenous Identity."
George Gladman Jr. - Metis - Indigenous and England-educated HBC officer George Gladman Jr (mspace.lib.umanitoba.ca/bitstream/hand…)
The role of women in the fur trade society of the Canadian west 1700-1850. Van Kirk, Sylvia M - Harriet Vincent - daughter to Thomas Vincent and Jane Renton.
"who is a descendent of an historically recognized Métis ancestor" -- so you need one recognized ancestor to join the Metis National Council -- is that a substantial indigenous connection? -- Looks to me like Martin Dunn has a Substantial Indigenous Connection ..

Bell) to tell him if he really knows his own identity, I don't think he was properly vetted and told his whole genealogy! *Sarcasm Alert/ Mi'kmaq leather worker - Nora Plourde. Image

"The Métis National Council does not recognize the existence of Métis communities in Quebec." The Metis National Council is one of the 2 National organizations who have a mandate to the Metis peoples of Canada. MNC and CAP/NCC have 2 very different definitions of what it means
to be Metis. Just because MNC gets millions to shut out the voices of the other Metis people, does not make them more legitimate! CAP/NCC is who repatriated the Metis peoples into the Canadian Constitution. The purpose of the NCC/CAP meetings is to ensure that 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆
