Important @ICMR statement on evidence based use of #StemCell Therapy based on critical review of literature & claims by large panel of academic clinicians, which I had the privilege to lead. #StemCells often hyped & shouldn't be offered as #StandardOfCare

Inherent public appeal of #StemCellTherapy is being exploited & promoted unethically as a #MagicRemedy to vulnerable patients & should be regulated. There are many diseases where Basic/Translational/Clinical Research can establish its utility @ISSCR @ICMR @fda @ema leads the way!

Acutely aware that patients & their groups want freedom to try whatever might help them & detest when the academic medical community or regulators are so hung up on #RiskBenefitRatio & good evidence and till then say this therapy they cannot take outside regulated clinical trials

As chairperson of the National Apex Committee for Stem Cell Research & Therapy (NACSCRT) @ICMR with inter-ministerial representation, I have now handed over the baton to my successor @AnuragAgrawalMD wishing him all the luck
