@GovofCO announces BIG changes to metrics for Colorado's #COVID19 dial frame.

Changes go into effect tomorrow at 9am

#9news
Here's where states are now
This is where states can go under new metrics

(BIG)
Summary of changes
Here's the deal

the state is making it easier for counties to move down (and up) on the dial

thanks to the fact that cases are down.... MANY counties will be moving down immediately.
Why does this matter?

B/c under YELLOW restaurants and other businesses can have 50% capacity

under ORANGE it's 25%

This has VERY BIG implications
Colorado has now vaccinated 251,469 people 70+

(64% of the goal of 70% of those 70+)

(Math... it's what's for dinner)

Hey yall

it's a Friday cornucopia of news today...

right now... @GovofCO giving us an update on the dial system...

this will be important for businesses around the state..

details below

#COVID19colorado
Governor Polis notes a pretty sizeable uptick in daily case counts...

around 1800 today...

that's significant... but also could be result of increased testing.

also have now given more than a half million Coloradans at least one dose of COVID vaccine

(that's good news)
Governor starts off dial talk by noting "breaching hospital capacity" is critical...

(Why I always say HOSPITALIZATIONS are among the most critical metrics)

We have not breached it. So today we get Dial 2.0

"it's a more responsive dial"

THREAD

Wanna walk you through this story @jennifermeckles and I worked on yesterday.

It involves a really nice guy by the name of Michael.

He's in his 70s. Eligible for the vaccine in Colorado. He actually got an appointment for a shot...

There was just one problem...
That appointment was abruptly canceled when a billing person with the medical provider learned he owed $243.85 for a previous and unrelated appointment.

He is a cancer patient. He needs this shot.

Instead, he got this email from a Boulder Medical Center patient account rep
Michael was miffed. So was his partner. She contacted us to see if this was right.

In essence, she thought, a medical provider was holding a vaccine in the middle of a pandemic as ransom...

Sure did seem that way. So we headed up to Longmont for an interview.

You can see the rate of decline has slowed -- just a bit -- in last 2 weeks... but still goin down

I'd like to walk you through the process we've gone through for our investigation #PRONE

To review, we have found at least 107 deaths of people who died shortly after being held facedown and handcuffed.

Here are 100 of their faces.

Like many investigations, this one started with another.

Last year, I started looking into the 2018 death of David Baker.

Baker, a Navy veteran, died shortly after several Aurora police officers pinned him to the ground after a violent confrontation.

2/ Image
According to the coroner's report, Baker died of "restraint asphyxia"

He died, in essence, because he couldn't breathe enough air in and out of his body.
