Federal, regional leaders fail to strike a deal on the delayed national elections. Addressing media in Dhuusamareeb, Information Minister @OsmanDubbe says despite concessions on Gedo region, Somaliland and electoral body; some political stakeholders have rejected all proposals.
On Jubaland, FGS says regional admin has turned down three proposals. A fact finding mission deployed to the Gedo led by interior ministers of regional states, rejected. AMISOM police to oversee polls in Garbaharey rejected. Third proposal was reconciliation - also rejected
On Somaliland elections, FGS says Senate speaker Abdi Hashi turned down an offer to appoint 4 members to the regions election team. The veteran lawmaker was blocked from attending talks, despite declaring himself as the sole representative of politicians from the breakaway state
Finally, with no deal reached on all contentious issues, authorities have proposed new round of talks at a later date. Meanwhile pres @M_Farmaajo is due to fly to #Mogadishu, Saturday to address joint houses of parliament on the upcoming elections initially planned for 5th Feb

As president @M_Farmaajo’s official term ends today, council of presidential candidates say it no longer recognizes him as president of #Somalia. Council wants a “Transitional National Council” formed to oversee the implementation of the Sep 17 2020 election agreement.
Opposition proposes that “transitional national council” formed, headed by speakers of parliament & senate, regional leaders, civil society and opposition representatives. It also proposes for an agreed election timetable to be created as soon as possible
Council is seeking for support from the public, international partners and political stakeholders in implementing the new set of demands. It also warns security organs against taking orders from “individuals” whose constitutional term has expired
