New from me: Rob Minuta, the Oath Keeper ABC identified as doing security for Roger Stone on Jan. 6, was also seen escorting Michael Flynn at the 12/12 Trump rally and Alex Jones at the 11/14 rally. thedailybeast.com/this-far-right…
Minuta is visible here in this photo by Tasos Katopodis of Getty Images wearing a black Oath Keepers hat (far left) flanking Flynn when he spoke at the Supreme Court in a December 12 pro-Trump rally
He's also visible in this video from @ELaserDavies stiff-arming a bystander out of Flynn's way
Washingtonian photographer @EvyMages captured this photo later in the evening of Minuta standing next to Proud Boy Dominic "Spazzo" Pezzola, the man federal prosecutors charged with breaking through a Capitol window. washingtonian.com/2020/12/14/pho…
He's also visible in this photo from UPI escorting Alex Jones at an 11/14 "Million MAGA March" rally cdnph.upi.com/pv/upi/21744f2…
In May, Minuta received a visit from Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes, who traveled to Minuta's New York tattoo shop to join his anti-COVID lockdown protest. Rhodes got a tattoo from Minuta with the "We the people" script from the constitution midhudsonnews.com/2020/05/31/tat…
The NYT visual investigations team has been keeping some of the closest watch on the Oath Keepers who showed up in Washington on Jan 6
Since targeted harassment of reporters, particularly women reporters, is a topic today I'll offer my two cents since.
I spend a lot of time thinking about privacy and its online attack surface because of my background in open source investigations. I make lots of slides and memos about how to use the latest tools to pull more information off the Internet and prevent creeps from pulling it on you
The thing that bothers me the most about providing advice to reporters on how to button up their privacy & security is the inherent tradeoff that harassment forces. There's lots of things, small and large, you can do to mitigate & blunt it.
Hey, remember that guy Rob Minuta we wrote about who did security for Roger Stone on 1/6? The one we found doing security for Mike Flynn and Alex Jones? He's just been arrested by the FBI on riot-related charges according to local news. thedailybeast.com/this-far-right…
Rioters admitting to the FBI that they didn't vote in November while also admitting to attacking the Capitol to overthrow other the votes of people who did is so on the nose it feels like screenwriting
“Apparently unaware that a public video admission to criminal conduct at the U.S. Capitol could strip him of the right to vote, Mr. Jackson oddly explains that he has “learned a lesson” from not voting in the 2020 presidential election (“because I thought my vote didn’t count”)..
...ensuring that he would “vote in future elections.”
New from me: Prosecutors have charged an alleged Colorado militia member, Robert Gieswein, which The Daily Beast has been tracking since he appeared in photos of the riot at the Capitol. thedailybeast.com/baseball-bat-w…
The FBI says Gieswein "appears to be affiliated with the radical militia group known as the Three Percenters." Working with @jsrailton, we found similar evidence. Here's a picture of Gieswein from his now-deleted Facebook page posing in front of CO Rep Lauren Boebert's bar
Gieswein, kneeling with the rifle. is flashing the Three Percenter hand signs in front of Beobert's bar in this picture from November 2019.
Fun bit of imagery intelligence history from the Cuban missile crisis. When analysts found the Soviet missile sites, Bobby Kennedy was fighting against state officials to get a Black student, James Meredith, admitted to the University of Mississippi in Oxford.
When CIA analysts first told Bobby about the MRBMs in Cuba, in a moment of frustration he blurted out, “Will those goddamned things reach Oxford, Mississippi?” When the analysts said yes, Kennedy apparently cracked a smile.
After that, CIA imagery analysts made sure to highlight Oxford, Mississippi on the satellite imagery briefing boards sent to Kennedy
