Since targeted harassment of reporters, particularly women reporters, is a topic today I'll offer my two cents since.
I spend a lot of time thinking about privacy and its online attack surface because of my background in open source investigations. I make lots of slides and memos about how to use the latest tools to pull more information off the Internet and prevent creeps from pulling it on you
The thing that bothers me the most about providing advice to reporters on how to button up their privacy & security is the inherent tradeoff that harassment forces. There's lots of things, small and large, you can do to mitigate & blunt it.
But at the end of the day, the root of a lot of advice is "Make yourself less available. Participate in things less than your colleagues," which is exactly the point of targeted harassment campaigns and it frustrates me to no end that we don't have better options to give people.
