As most ppl know, in Sweden we have a very controversial state epidemiologist. Tegnell took controversial decisions, which we always knew was due to a belief in herd immunity by infection. He denies it, but emails say otherwise ⬇️ "I believe more in herd immunity"(than lockdowns)
From 3 alternative ways of dealing with the Covid19 pandemic:
1️⃣Stop all movement & contacts for 4 weeks
2️⃣Find as many infected as possible, contact trace & put them in 2 weeks quarantine
3️⃣Let the spread happen, slowly or fast, to reach an eventual herd immunity
He chose n° 3️⃣
"Our models estimate the risk for eldelry's attack rate reduces 10%"
Tegnell "(...)Mostly to each other (..)"
"We also thought about that. But in the meanwhile kids will still spread the infection..."
Tegnell "A point speaks in favor of keeping schools open to reach HI faster"
Schools kept open in 🇸🇪, except high school which had online teaching sometimes.
It's important to note that since the Public Health Authority denies airborne transmission of Covid19, a disinformation about "distance is the most important" is constant. Masks aren't recommended.
This has led to unsafe work conditions for both teachers & students, with 100s of kids in 🇸🇪 developing health problems after getting infected with Covid. Still, the anti-mask narrative continues & people have even been treatened w/ losing their jobs for insisting to #WearAMask
On top of that it's also important to note that in Sweden it is illegal to homeschool. There's mandatory school-attendance (skolplikt) & since that hasn't been touched during the pandemic, in practice parents are forced to send their kids to unsafe schools on a daily basis
You can imagine how tense the school question is in Sweden is after all this, right?
But it gets worse.
Our Minister of Education has several times tagged people who have been in favor of keeping the schools open in Sweden, like in the example bellow.
Nothing wrong so far.
One of them is Sven Roman. A doctor who (left) thinks "Corona is a masshysteria" & (right) shared an article by Martin Kulldorff & wrote "the smartest we can do is get the kids & youngsters infected, because it increases immunity & they don't drive the spread"
He also wrote "immunity through infection gives a much broader protection, which all immunologists agree. We need to get immunity through a combination of immunity through infection & vaccine. Mortality in kids & youngsters is rare, great if they get the disease"
Here he writes "I'm still proud of Stockholmers. Now it's rush hour & I'm on the subway. It works perfectly to sit or stand with at least 2 meters distance, & around 10 to 20% wears masks: 80 to 90% of Stockholmers understood that masks are totally useless in this situation"
So, why did our Minister of Education tag someone with his views, several times? We don't know. We have no idea if they are friends, if he is an adviser, if they just have similar views...
But of course many people have talked about this mysterious connection & wondered.
Today the Minister of Education tweeted about false rumors about him being her advisor. She claims they never had contact & she only tagged him because he criticized her for deciding on online classes for high schools, so she thought she'd ping him for the news of open schools
She warns that critical thinking is very important not only in schools, but also for adults, who shouldn't believe everything they hear. And I agree, critical thinking is crucial.
Are we expected to see past this? Is it even weird that we wonder what's up w/ this connection?
Are we to see one of the few (if not the only 🤔) Minister of Education tag a man who is an Anti-vaxx, Great Barrington Declaration fan, and look away? Aren't the Swedish people more than entitled to raise their eyebrows at this coincidence?
Are we to accept that our Minister of Education takes decision considered very risky & controversial in the rest of world, while having unexplained connections with Herd Immunity advocates, without asking questions?
Children's healths are at stake. Teacher's healths as well.
Is it so unreasonable to wonder why a Minister, who impacts the lives of every single child & family in this country, has several times tagged a man who now even went full-on Anti-vaxx? "The vaccine isn't God's gift to mankind. Studies done don't show reduced mortality or spread"
Especially when we also know that one of her role models is Ludvigsson, a Swedish doctor who signed the Great Barrington Declaration & has views that are considered very controversial (at least in the rest of the World)
"I'm very glad that you Jonas, one of my role models (...)"
Just to illustrate a bit of how Ludvigsson, one of our Education Minister's role models, thinks ⬇️
Last point in the slide: "Good if all school kids get the virus? - the virus dies faster"
If anyone is wondering where that picture of Jonas Ludvigsson comes from, it's from a video uploaded on YouTube 10 months ago (link in the tweet below)
It sure sounds good when @SwedishPM says "people's freedom is a strong right in the Swedish Constitution". Many abroad praise Sweden for respecting freedoms during the pandemic. But let's be clear, a price was paid, & it was paid by the unpriviledged. I was one of them.
(Thread)
Seen from abroad & without much knowledge of what really happened here, I understand it's easy to get the wrong perception of how respectful Sweden is of people's rights & freedoms. But please don't be fooled.
A right that was respected was the right of parents to leave their kids in childcare. "It's for the children's best & for the families' best", we heard. The price was paid by childcare workers like me, who until Dec 1st (!) were forced to take care of kids who had Covid at home
Here's my story ⬇️ I worked in a preschool in 🇸🇪, masks were a taboo that no one dared to talk about. When I quit & said I didn't wanna put my health at risk anymore w/o 😷 my boss said "I understand, if you're scared of diseases this is no place for you"
This is the story of a preschool teacher in risk group & with a husband also in risk group, who is being threatened with being fired because she refuses to work without a mask ⬇️
She says that she has been contacting the media for a while about her situation, being at home because the employer claims she "refuses to work", when in fact all she wants is to wear a mask at work. The media has shown no interest about her story until now
@GoteborgsPosten has now published her story though, which she is happy about. But she says that she is tired & disappointed, so she doesn't have the energy to fight to get her story out there in international media. It's frustrating but I understand her
She went to work one day with a mask on, the employer told her to take it off, she refused, so she got sent home without pay & with a claim of "refusing to work".
This woman made the news because she stood up to her employer. But make no mistake, there's many ppl all over Sweden who are going through a similar situation, going to workplaces everyday where they're expected to work unprotected, but they don't dare to stand up against it.
As many of you know, I used to work in a preschool as well. Masks were the biggest taboo you can imagine. I don't know what would have happened if I had tried to work with a mask on, but I can guarantee you it would be no smooth ride.
"- It is to be regarded as a statutory charter, such as not smoking during working hours & we do not use masks"
New all-time low in Sweden: comparing masks to smoking. There are no limits to this madness. Meanwhile people get infected everyday, some die, some develop #LongCovid.
"She means there's big risks w/ masks that are handled in a wrong way:
- There's an exception for preschools if a kid gets sick during the day, staff is AUTHORIZED to use mask in that situation, not in other situations" ➡️ in the country of own responsibility & personal freedom
