Without naming AQ, TTP issued a statement rejecting the latest UNSC committee on AQ/ISIL report and claims that neither a "global [jihadist] organization" nor any state helped mergers of various anti-state Pakistani jihadist groups into TTP last year. 1/n
The UNCS report published on 3rd Feb claimed that AQ moderated the TTP mergers process. The TTP statement could be surprising for many observers, but there seem two strategic aims for TTP behind releasing this statement. 2/n
First, TTP remains a natural ally of the Afghan Taliban, both having historical roots. TTP is sheltered in the controlled areas in Afghanistan. Thus, TTP will want the AT soon to reach power, for which the AQ's presence in Afghanistan remains a major obstacle. 3/n
Secondly, there are rumors of the ongoing negotiation between TTP and the Pakistan government, facilitated by Sirajuddin Haqqani. Therefore, TTP needs to portray its war with Pakistan only shaped by domestic problems and not directed by the global jihadist agenda of AQ. 4/n
TTP history shows that the group has remained an AQ ally in AfPak. AQ not only founded TTP but played instrumental roles in its expansion and rise. There has never been any confrontation between the two groups. 5/n
AQ has always supported the TTP, and its latest evidence is the Zawahiri eulogy released on the killing of TTP emir Maulana Fazlullah in Aug 2018. 6/n ent.siteintelgroup.com/Statements/aq-…

TTP issued a statement confirming its two senior commanders' assassination, blaming it on the Pakistani security agencies. Both originally belonged to JuA or TTP Mohmand. The statement condemns the news reports which claimed these assassinations as intra-TTP fighting. 1/6
Several TTP senior commanders are assassinated in Kunar-Nangarhar in the last two years, but it is the first time TTP issued such a statement on these mysterious killings. The statement has three important points. 2/6
First, TTP claims their assassination location in the Methay area of Mohmand agency, which is few kilometers away from the Baharabad-Shonkray locality of the Sarkani district of Kunar province, where local sources confirmed that this attack took place. 3/6
A Pakistani News channel, @aajnews_urdu reports that 3⃣ senior members of TTP-JuA targeted in an IED attack in the Baharabad locality of the Sarkani district of Kunar. 2⃣ of them, Noor Gul, aka Muslimyar, & Rasheed Mama, are killed, and the third, Waheed Gul, is injured. 1/5
The area shares a close border with the Mohmand tribal district of Pakistan. It remains a stronghold of JuA, formerly known as TTP Mohmand, since 2010, where they moved due to the Pak army military operations. JuA is led by Abdul Wali Mohmand, aka Umar Khalid Khurasani. 2/5
A former commander of Harkatul Mujahideen, Khurasani became a founding leader of TTP, known as the topmost anti-Pakistan TTP commander, splintered from TTP in Aug 2014 over policy differences starting from negotiations with Pakistan, but merged back into TTP in Aug 2020. 3/5
My report for @BBCMonitoring on the latest TTP video released on 17th Dec. The video showcases TTP attacks against the Pakistani security forces during Sep-Oct-Nov. It has some very significant revelations, highly recommended to access it through BBCM. 1/4 monitoring.bbc.co.uk/product/c2029e…
The video shows footage of 19 attacks conducted in Bajaur, South and North Waziristan. The video claims that TTP has carried out 68 attacks in the last three months, killing 151 and injuring 40 people. 80% of these attacks have inflicted losses to the army. 2/4
The video also remains focused on the enforced disappearances in Pakistan by showing footage of Baloch women protesting for demanding to release their missing family members, in addition to a clip of Syed Munawar Hassan accusing the army of these disappearances. 3/4
ISKP spokesman, Sultan Aziz Azzam, releases a new statement criticizing the Afghan Taliban, declaring the US-TB peace process as TB surrender to the US, directed by Pakistan. The statement seems authored yesterday as mentioned to the 20th Dec missile attacks in Kabul. 1/3
As usual, Azzam taunts the Afghan Taliban declaring them the new militia of the US against ISKP. He criticizes the Taliban leadership visits to Moscow, China, and their accommodations in Doha, accusing them compromised their religion. 2/3
Azzam refers to the controversial reports of US air support for the Taliban, although the Taliban strictly rejects but the WP has recently published a detailed story on it by quoting unanimous US air force personnel claimed to have remained involved in this process. 3/3
For the first time since 2015, TTP claims an attack in Mamozay, Orakzay agency, the hometown of ISKP founding leadership, Shaikh Maqbool & Hafiz Saeed Khan. Orakzay was the basecamp of Hakimullah & the stronghold of TTP till TTP-Orakzay defected and founded ISKP in late 2014. 1/5
TTP claims to have killed two and abducted one of the laborers constructing a police post in the area. Reports say that both laborers were workers of ANP and belonged to the Mardan district of KpK. Both were beheaded. 2/5
TTP has avoided beheadings in the last few years after following🇦🇫Taliban and AQIS in releasing guidelines for its members. ISKP has used this brutal act as a trademark of its terror. Does it mean that ISKP hardliners have recently joined TTP ranks in the area? 3/5
Benazir Bhutto, ex-PM of Pakistan, described AQ in the following words n 2004, which I would say is a very concise & significant definition. It shows that she was well aware of the AQ threat, & the AQ also correctly considered her a major threat 4 its survival n the region. 1/n
Benazir Bhutto says ”Al-Qaeda has managed to unite disparate militant groups into an international confederate of terrorists, which is at times is called the Islamic Front. 2/n
Often these groups exploit local tensions, for example the tensions in the Middle East, the nationalistic feelings of the Chechen people, the nationalistic opposition to foreign troops in Iraq or the Kashmir dispute. However, they do have an ideology. 3/n
