Going into student public comment that can speak on any matter and each student will get 2 minutes to speak. Can speak at any other public comment time but right now is specifically for students and they can speak about anything #BoardWatch
Stud PC: Addressing racism at Lowell and keeping selective admissions is not mutually exclusive. Create nuance comprehensive solution. Correlation in SFUSD is haphazard from prior boards. Give more resources for Black and Latin American predominant elementary schools #BoardWatch
Prev Tweet Cont: Lottery system should be taken out of resolution to be discussed at a later date to see how the lottery system truly affects admissions #BoardWatch
Stud PC: Junior at Lowell HS. Supports the Lowell resolution. Here to say that no matter what happens, we students are here to support whoever walks through Lowell. Supports the resolution #BoardWatch
Stud PC: Supports the resolution. Senior at Lowell HS. Going to Lowell does not automatically make you a racist. Issues from earlier BOE policies. Getting rid of the institution will not stop racism. Children are entering HS at 14. BOE is adults...
Cont Prev Tweet: Any student that wants academically rigorous environment should have access to it #BoardWatch
Stud PC: Talking about racial incident at Lowell. Clearly a student. Should do better about teaching respect to students #BoardWatch
Thank you students for making your voices heard! #BoardWatch
Going into general public comment for anything that is not on the agenda #BoardWatch
The Lowell Resolution and School Reopening are on the agenda #BoardWatch
PC: NAACP, African American Faith Community, would like to appeal to the board and the superintendent about renaming of schools. Put the brakes on and enfranchise the Black community. Not involved, practice inclusionary practices in the school district. Come and reason together
Cont Prev Comment: Appeal to the board and to get away from the disenfranchisement of the Black community in SF #BoardWatch
PC: Updating on KALW. Good news: Many automated hours are being rolled back. Bad news: Some automated hours remain in place and are targeted at me. Only music host who is automated and cannot live host. Automation needs to be rolled back completely and can host live #BoardWatch
PC: Kinderteacher at DEHM. Thank you district for coming to agreement on safe reopening. District and the board need to pressure the mayor to keep the most vulnerable safe. Need more hazard pay, food distribution, safe transportation, all of this is necessary for safe schools...
Cont Prev Comment: We need you to be walking the halls to see that everything is sufficient and ongoing. We need support at each site. Our lives, our students lives are in your hands #BoardWatch
PC: 8Th Grade Teacher at BBHM. Wants to be back in the classroom when its safe to do so. They are not just students but people with trauma. In one class, 1/3 of students lost someone. Others have brought up getting jobs to support economically. How will we meet social emotional
Cont Prev Comment: health for these students when we are back face to face. We need to demand a safe return for these students #BoardWatch
PC: Part of anti-gun violence org. Please send gun safety information back to families. 1 in 3 homes in American cities have guns in the home. Families need to learn how to keep guns locked. Kids will bring in the guns from their own homes and bring to schools #BoardWatch
PC: Teacher at Lawton for 25 years. Dedicated to its children learning, and staff. Fellow educator works with special education students. Takes many years to become accomplished teachers. Learning safety and social development should always be the focus. She was a non-rehire...
Cont Prev Comment: And we want you to please reconsider this. We have been sending emails and we would like them answered #BoardWatch
PC: K2 Moderate Severe Teacher at Lawton. Want that teacher to be reinstated. Fully supported as a teacher and want her to continue to teach. Her class is difficult. Letting her go will be a safety risk for the students. They need someone who is knowledgeable about their health
Cont Prev Comment: If you let her go, you are letting someone go who is beloved by her students and their families. She has gone above and beyond #BoardWatch
PC: So proud of parents, students, and teachers for bring up their concerns publicly. Want to note that the deal is insufficient, leaving us with more questions than answers. More stringent requirements, this deal needs more work #BoardWatch
PC: Also talking about teacher that was not rehired. Please continue her contract #BoardWatch
PC: Concerns about renaming process. After a release of how the committee discussed it. Severe concerns with input from citizens #BoardWatch
PC: Been a lot of talk about racial inequality and the achievement gap. You all think I'm a radical but want there to be more tutors. 30% of those who get into Lowell are poor. 10,000 hours is what it takes to be great at something. Wants to eliminate the achievement gap
PC: Lots of reverb. Oh jeez. #BoardWatch
PC: Staff at KLW. Believe deeply in music and arts program. Actively engaged in more music programming, expect more live music events as its safe to do so. Currently only 4 shows preprogramed. Personal grievance & not a place for this conversation. Needless distraction
PC: 3rd Grade Teacher. Thank you for coming to an agreement. Rhetoric that the mayor is using against educators & against the union is out of touch. Should not be creating divisive climate. Had to completely change how we teach. We love our jobs, we miss our students...
Cont Prev Comment: We are asking for a safe reopening. The city has failed us. #BoardWatch
PC: Last several years working with SFUSD students as tutor and instructor. Trying to reach out to district about unethical treatment at after school program. Has not heard back. Very frustrating, still wants to speak to someone and wants help. Found no other means to speak w/...
Cont Prev Comment: someone. Shoutout to other educators from Lawton who spoke and inspired them to be an educator #BoardWatch
PC: Schools should be renamed but not reopened. You're so fixated on your political ideologies you are the Ted Cruzes of SF. Mayor Breed said you are allowing our kids to fall behind, good for her shame on you #BoardWatch
PC: Great to think about how we can partner w/ the human rights commission when we are not in crises. Would like to be proactive and not reactive. Owe Commissioner @FaauugaMoliga a call. Can we address things before they blow up? #BoardWatch
PC: Three children, 2 are SFUSD students. W/ grandmother in Maine. Had to move her 3,000 miles away to attend school. The learning that she was losing, the depression she was experiencing, the disengagement. Teachers want to return safely but our mental health is compromised...
Cont Prev Comment: There needs to be more urgency and real speed with reopening the schools. It can be done safely, the evidence is there #BoardWatch
PC: Congrats on reaching agreement. Announcer at KLW until recently enjoyed management. Has not listening to workers about their schedules #BoardWatch
PC: 6th Grade Teacher at Lawton. Colleague who was not rehired. Learning how to have a growth mindset is something they are teaching all students, shouldn't that be applied to teachers? She finds way to engage students in school community & community at large...
Cont Prev Comment: Expressed being open to coaching. Worked to ensure students are receiving their support. Should work with new teachers on a growth mindset instead of turning them away #BoardWatch
Closing this part of public comment #BoardWatch
We are now going to hear from the Migrant Education Program, I'll attach their slides below #BoardWatch
Here are the slides in Spanish drive.google.com/file/d/16bze1V… and here are the slides in English drive.google.com/file/d/1g_Y4G3… #BoardWatch
Jose and their mom are presenting. Jose has been a part of the program for 8 years #BoardWatch
Some technical difficulties are happening today #BoardWatch
An awesome video about Josselyn a student who's mom is a migrant worker and how proud she is of her mom and the work she does #BoardWatch
MEPs mission is to provide educational enrichment for all students, supports family through parent development, and helps with secondary education through either college or vocational school #BoardWatch
In order for students to qualify they must be between 3 and 24, have no graduated from high school, moved within the past 36 months in agriculture or fishing, and has parent in agriculture or fishing #BoardWatch
MEP provides lots of services. Summer school monitoring, school enrichment, mentoring, academic excursions, workshops about career and education readiness, and case management to name a few #BoardWatch
Migrant Ed program not only helps with academics but focuses on social emotional as well. Has 6 workshops each year to encourages parent leadership and to learn about educational systems in the US #BoardWatch
MEP has supported students by helping them get computers and hotspots. Help connect students to SFUSD support lines #BoardWatch
COVID has impacted everyone's lives. Some have lost their jobs, some have lost their homes. MEP supported families with mental health referrals, housing referrals, and job referrals #BoardWatch
MEP has expanded for recruitment and saw 100% graduation rate since 2019 #BoardWatch
Migrant families face challenges related to lack of cultural understanding, family separation and immigration challenges, to name a few. Covid19 has only made these things worse #BoardWatch
This photo signifies our families and what we go through #BoardWatch
Going into public comment on this topic #BoardWatch
PC: Thank you to supervisors and colleagues and thank you for your presentation to mother and son! You kept pushing forward. That food you eat, someone is picking it. You are doing phenomenal work for the most need of our students. Thank you so much #BoardWatch
PC: Thank you Migrant Parent Pac for overcoming a lot of the barriers we have during covid and the ones before covid. Deeply appreciate the work you are doing, as we think about education during covid we will look at the priorities listed in this presentation #BoardWatch
Cont Previous Comment: Hopefully we do not prioritize teachers over migrant workers, want them on the same plane. Let's not pit families against each other #BoardWatch
PC: Thank you for the work you are doing w/ migrant ed. Proud of work by students in immersion and bilingual schools #BoardWatch
Opening up to commissioners and student delegates #BoardWatch
Commissioner @FaauugaMoliga muchos gracias! This is amazing work and this is the work we are here to do as a school district. Thank you to staff, parents, students, and those who are pushing this forward. In this arena is scary but hats off to those showing up #BoardWatch
Student delegate Correa Alamanza said the video was super powerful and thank you for sharing! #BoardWatch
Commissioner @mattalexandersf thank you for the presentation. What additional support do you need in this moment? #BoardWatch
Point back to a slide where parents outlined what we are looking for. We need support around trauma that our parents & families have experienced through working in the fields, traveling, & separation. That's one of the things we have been hoping to find a way to support families
Families need support in learning English. We don't have the funding. This used to be funded through the state or district but dried up 10 years ago. Parents asked about it last night so it can help w/ documents & talking with teachers #BoardWatch
Wanted to present in the native language, important to switch up and welcome our parents and make them feel like this is their presentation. Need support w/ learning English. Live in a system where they cannot navigate w/o the language. Hard enough w/ legal issues #BoardWatch
Want schools to be more aware of when parents come & don't speak the language, be more gentle. Parents are not treated very kindly at certain schools. Cannot find anyone who speaks Spanish. Start not participating & going to schools. That's where MEP comes in #BoardWatch
Commissioner @AliMCollins thank you for this presentation. We do this on a regular basis, have we tracked over the years if there are consistent requests that are coming up. This team is really responsive, they hustle to make this happen. This team is remarkable #BoardWatch
@SFUSD_Supe there's resolution tracking. Just started tracking the PAC reports. Have not made that a part of their presentation but if that's the wishes, it can happen #BoardWatch
We should have people who can explain and converse both in English and Spanish at schools. There isn't enough time to unpack English as a second language while navigating online learning but that conversation should happen #BoardWatch
Working with migrant families is a passion not a job. It can be hard to find some services for people. Thank you for your help and collaboration #BoardWatch
Commissioner @jennyhlam thank you to the team for presenting! One thing I want to lift up are being clear what services we have in the district and when we need to partner with CBO's for services we do not have. Just expanded a new mobile response program for all SFUSD students
This is how we go above and beyond. Even though you are a small team it is grounded in love. A lot more support is needed, we want to make sure schools and students know about it. This is available outside of SFUSD. Where should we help with outreach? #BoardWatch
Outreach happens through EPC, it's the first place families enter. Want to expand that collaboration. Want to continue to give out our cards. Go to ELAC meetings. Would love larger meetings and more collaboration with principals and staff #BoardWatch
Applying is relatively simple. Reach out to Blanca, Brenda, or Gina and they will help you through the process. There are more families who are working in the fields because of covid. There is stigma about the job and want that stigma to stop. It is okay to come forth #BoardWatch
There is a page on SFUSD and here it is sfusd.edu/meet-our-migra… the application is also on this page #BoardWatch
Thank you Migrant Education Program for telling us about what you do! #BoardWatch
PAC will be presenting their report. They also wanna give a shout out to MEP and Judson Steele for all that he does! #BoardWatch
Tonights report will focus on PACs priorities and key ongoing initiatives #BoardWatch
Here is tonight's PAC report go.boarddocs.com/ca/sfusd/Board… #BoardWatch
Parents want transparency about a timeline and what face to face learning will look like or what it won't look like #BoardWatch
Want continued focus on remote learning that will continue for those who choose to not go back for face to face #BoardWatch
How do we provide every student with a good education at this time? #BoardWatch
School renaming: PAC thinks it should continue but want to focus on in-person instruction as soon as it is safe to do so while also supporting distance learning. Families see back to face-to-face as priority #BoardWatch
Racist Incident at Lowell: Students delegates are example of what SFUSD has done right. Unacceptable that more has not been done at Lowell high school and for so long. PAC stands in solidarity w/ Lowell BSU. Recognize that this behavior is not limited to one high school
Admissions Policy at Lowell: Agree it should be changed but PAC has not agreed not. Lots of different opinions. Significant that students are in support of this measure, want student input on all things. Want deeper investigation & want to look at other SFUSD hs's #BoardWatch
Members of PAC have met with communication staff at SFUSD. Shared specific feedback about family digest, prioritize texting for parents & caregiver who do not have email. Urge communications to provide more face oriented experiences & give reassurance #BoardWatch
PAC is still taking more members and working to remove barriers for families that have historically been unrepresented #BoardWatch
Q&A is for the deaf and hard of hearing community only. Anyone that harassers people there will also be removed #BoardWatch
Public comment on the PAC report #BoardWatch
PC: Community organizer for Arab families in the Tenderloin. These families need more representation, is not represented in the school district. Need someone who can speak language, understand culture, not just watch parents suffer. We really need help w/ that #BoardWatch
Cont Prev Comment: There are many parents who are not really helped. They usually come to this person but they cannot do it for all SF families. There is very little representation. Families preschool-high school. Please consider for Arab families in the district #BoardWatch
PC: CAC Liaison. Thank you PAC for this presentation & all they are doing to educate families & provide support. We have enjoyed our partnership to reach out to families in the district and increase representation of all underserved #BoardWatch
PC: Chair of School Council. Want to pushback on things mentioned in the PAC report. We are already done with our renaming process. It is possible to do it in a pandemic. Other schools in the US are doing this. When I hear people slowing down social justice initiatives...
Cont Prev Comment: Also wished the PAC would support Lowell students better #BoardWatch
PC: Reverend Brown welcomes parent involvement with NAACP, Asian Democratic Club etc with this issue of changing the admissions policy at Lowell HS. Particularly when there is a major portion of the Black community that was excluded (faith community, civil rights, educators)
PC: NAACP encourage PAC to partner with them. Parents are concerned about running to fast w/ changing admissions policy. When major portion of Black community was excluded, that is disrespectful. Want reasonable and respectful conversations. We could be a dream team, like in ZA
Brown Cont. need to have everyone at the table, a dream team, shouldn't go into a silo and talk to oneself, does not help engender community Dr. King spoke about. Put brakes on and timeline, 70 days would be enough, don't need "paralysis of analysis" #BoardWatch
Cont Prev Comment: Please let us join together with the PAC and put the brakes on and a timeline. 70 days is a good amount of time. We have fist loads of data about how unjust this district has been to sons & daughters of Africa, Latinx, and Asian students #BoardWatch
PC: former member of PAC from 2005 has questions. Do you have a parent from Lowell HS in your group? Have you reached out broadly to the Lowell community? Concerned PAC isn't getting full feedback. Are there asian-americans on the PAC? #BoardWatch
PC: responding to previous comment- most recent harassment was not targeted at White and Asian students, it was targeted at Black and Jewish students. Concerned about the use of model minority myths. Also concerned thought about who is represented on the PAC #BoardWatch
PC: have questions about how process is used in the district, especially around spending $. When process is sloppy, it can undermine the end output. People see money being spent in this way, even if end result is good, people may doubt use of funds (taxpayer $) #BoardWatch
PC: what will happen to Korean language program at Lowell if these changes are made? Will the program be gutted, like the school? (Judson steps in to note that this is not on topic of PAC report) #BoardWatch
PC: there is discussion of all the groups who are underrepresented at Lowell, but nowhere on the list are American Indian or Indigenous students. Why? #BoardWatch
PC: Chair of AAAPAC thanks the PAC, sounds side by side with PAC, but also understand there is a difference of opinion among parents. Cannot speak for a group unless there is consensus. #BoardWatch
PC: Disappointed by the recommendation of the PAC to wait. They are not a diverse group of parents as far as I have seen. Need to represent students of all ethnic groups and I do not see that. #BoardWatch
PC: Want to thank the PAC for being a voice of reason that we don't hear a lot at any school district thing. #BoardWatch
PC: want to oppose appointment to the PAC, d/n fulfill the goal to decrease the achievement gap. Conflict of interest to appoint someone who is trying to "decrease the distance." Board appoints, so that's on you guys. #BoardWatch
Public comment is over. President Lopez is asking those who shared comments on this item, that should have been for a later item, to hold off later in the agenda #BoardWatch
BTW, it's Miranda here now. I've assumed the position and taken over the tweeting for as long as I last. Powered by Menthos gum... #BoardWatch
Comment from VP Collins wondering about representation on the PAC, especially if there has been focus on communication issues happening at MS and HS level - different when you are trying to communicate with multiple teachers #BoardWatch
PAC coordinator notes that there is one parent from Lowell on the PAC, identified it as an area of need for filling positions. Collins notes that especially for older kids with ADHD - parents need to know what student work is. ParentVue does not work for this. #BoardWatch
PAC member Naomi notes that the communication they are focused on is how the district-wide communication. Can be better so everyone is getting the same thing. E.g. info in a text. Plug for Aptos middle school, they have dialed it in. Calls/texts from teachers. #BoardWatch
VP @AliMCollins wants families to be able to find information when they need it and want it to be easy to find. Notes that parents are not supposed to be on Google Classroom (FERPA violation) but that is where info is. #BoardWatch
PAC member Laguna shouts out the great 30 minute free tech support service families can access.( Learn more in this multilingual flyer: docs.google.com/document/d/1kx…) #BoardWatch
Commissioner @FaauugaMoliga thanks PAC for work and volunteer effort, asking about issues with representation. Coordinator Jaques-Menegaz speaks to some of the difficulties with recruiting. There are still 4 regular spots and 3 alternate spots available. #BoardWatch
Moliga notes that PAC is not a place to push political agendas, it is for those who want to be there for their kids #BoardWatch
Commissioner Boggess curious how PAC committment to equity and works in connection with other PACs in the district. #BoardWatch
Jaques-Menegaz notes that PAC was created by board resolution, there is an advisory alignment convening where they work on issues of shared interest, usually have a summit. Work to make sure support one another. PAC is not "over" other advisories. #BoardWatch
Commissioner Alexander has questions about the underrepresentation of many groups on the PAC (Arab, Vietnamese, monolingual Chinese-speakers). Feels like white parents are over-represented. So many spaces are dominated by white parents. Only 15% white kids in SFUSD. #BoardWatch
Commissioner @mattalexandersf feels it has been strange since coming to the board to notice the huge majority of participation is coming from white parents. If there is going to be a PAC, that should be a way for other groups to access the Board of Education. #BoardWatch
Jaques-Menegaz says PAC has been talking and trying to strategize about how to increase diversity. The pandemic has compounded the difficulty. Those who may have done it in the past are not able to commit #BoardWatch
Commissioner @jennyhlam talks about the importance of not just the modalities of communication but also the messaging. What works? "I spent 10 years on advisory bodies" that is how you get to know all of the complexities, be part of the solution. #BoardWatch
Concerned about underrepresentation on PAC of API community. This is how we build up true parent leadership. DELAC and PAC are not interchangeable. Glad PAC is doing outreach with limited-English proficient Chinese parents. #BoardWatch
Lam also notes that API community is not monolithic. PAC member Laguna notes that they are also doing recruiting at Aptos MS (adding an image just to spice things up) Sanchez notes representation issue has been there always on PAC. What are goals? #BoardWatch
Jacques-Menegaz says there is no "list" of demographics needed on the PAC. Agrees with some board members that a means base stipend would be helpful. Don't want to engage in tokenism. Would ideally like to see representation from the Filipino community, API, Arab. #BoardWatch
Jaques-Menegaz says that also must acknowledge that there are some voices that we need to hear, who may not have capacity to serve as member of PAC. Would like to be able to increase diversity significantly by June #BoardWatch
Sanchez is uncomfortable, doesn't want to micromanage PAC. 40% of SF is white, 15% of SFUSD. Here most from white parents (90-95% of correspondence) that is an unequal power dynamic. People from decreasing the distance may feel they are not heard, but they are disproportionately.
.@marksanchezsf does not want to confirm new PAC member at this time b/c makes PAC even more disproportionately white. The Board is going to vote on the appointment #BoardWatch
Jaques-Menegaz is reading recommendation into the record. This candidate was unanimously approved by PAC membership. 4 spots still open and 3 alternates #BoardWatch
(BTW- interested in joining the PAC? Click here to learn more pacsf.org) #BoardWatch
Oh wow, going back to public comment on the appointment and lots of hands raised. This is democracy folks :) #BoardWatch
PC: Reverend Brown: this is a parent group that is not inclusive, doesn't even mirror Joe Biden's cabinet. Appeal is that the representatives of this panel get busy, be inclusive, stop making excuses about the pandemic. #BoardWatch
PC: Tearful speaker is speaking up in solidarity with friend who is up for appointment. This is bullying by those in power. He is a leader in his school and city community, in the LGBTQ community. If you talk about representation, he is a Gay father in a mixed-race family
PC: Discussion discredits the intersectionality of Seth being an LGBTQ parent of multiracial kids. There is a level of collaboration going forward in filling the rest of these seats. Consider the "both/and" of this. #BoardWatch
PC: Asking not to support this appointment. Ask PAC to increase representation by communities hard-hit by COVID #BoardWatch
PC: To deny someone a spot on the PAC because he is a member of a parent group you may not agree with to me feels very unfair and not representative of what SFUSD claims to be for #BoardWatch
PC: Advocating for mindset of abundance, if parents are motivated to help out should support that, but on the other hand should support more minorities and make the table bigger #BoardWatch
PC: Board members are shaming LGBTQ parents. Parents need to join organizations, not sit back while this happens. This is shameful #BoardWatch
PC: Parent who is LGBTQ parent of color. It is important to point out intersections. Bet we could find parents who are of color, and are also queer. Think it is problematic to have a white majority on a PAC #BoardWatch
PC: this is an attempt to silence the parents who are most critical of the board. Seth is clearly overqualified. Of course you should have diversity, but that is not what this is about #BoardWatch
PC: Have a book suggestion: white tears, brown scars #BoardWatch
PC: Appreciate the two boardmembers who touched on the issue of poverty. Race matters, but so does economics. Would like to remind that those communities can't always come forward, even though they want to, but shouldn't remove somebody who is highly qualified. #BoardWatch
PC: this is about diversity of thought. Need people who bring different ideas forward and are not scared to. See no reason why Seth should not be confirmed. Think this is a political show so that you can say you stopped a white person from getting on. #BoardWatch
PC: oppose this person because my understanding is that members of Decreasing the Distance have attempted to speak for families they don't represent. #BoardWatch
PC: this member would be only male, only LGBTQ member of PAC, and has a mixed-race child. We are all diverse in our own way and this member brings a lot of diversity. Shouldn't silence him because he is a member of a parent group. #BoardWatch
PC: parent is supporting nomination. He is an incredibly caring individual, a person, a parent. A dads perspective could be important. As a mixed race person, I have found that people like me are not well represented. He is a parent who cares #BoardWatch
PC: issue is with the structure of the PAC, if you want to ask people to do this work, you need to pay them to do this work. #BoardWatch
PC: not disparaging appointee. Process has been steeped in inequality for decades. Parents do not have a voice. Things have only been politicized because certain groups have always been excluded from the process. Absolutely is about race. operating under white supremacy.
PC: appointee has been active for many many years. Still have time to fill other position. Please do not let this be about whatever else this is about. Consider his body of work. #BoardWatch
PC: interesting to see a diversity of perspectives. See leadership using blunt tools of process and ideology to shape the conversation. Would like to see real dialogue about race and identity instead of throwing around terms. #BoardWatch
PC: don't know Seth, but concerned about something that keeps being stated about him having a "mixed-child" lets not focus on that but on his qualifications #BoardWatch
Comment from VP Collins: feels that it is offensive when people say someone is a parent of a person of color. Being of parent of someone doesn't mean that you can represent their experience. Remembering this came up last time. Why are we not fixing it? #BoardWatch
.@AliMCollins notes that there should also be geographic diversity on the PAC, diversity of schools represented. What is the purpose of the PAC? Is it to support all families? To support reducing the opportunity gap? This would inform who are the best families to do that work.
The discussion continues, not going to track it all verbatim. There is a proposal by @mattalexandersf referencing @marksanchezsf's idea to hold off on the appointment and wait until there is a larger, more representative slate. #BoardWatch
Delegate Hines-Foster likes the idea of waiting, also likes the idea of "packing the PAC." .@KevineBoggess doesn't want people to feel he is discriminating against white people, thinks there are structural issues with advisories. Need compensation. #BoardWatch
.@KevineBoggess thinks there should be ways for parents/students to be more than just "advise." Should have real power. Also concerned about appearance that one advisory is above another, even if not true. #BoardWatch
.@KevineBoggess acknowledges many other issues that are top priority but offering to meet with PAC and think about solutions. Hines-Foster wants to know if other parent advisory councils have an application? #BoardWatch
Jacques-Menegaz answer "I don't know" - got a text that says CAC does have an application. Sounds like AAPAC has not voting. When it was formed it did, but now has collective leadership model. Votes on consensus. Leadership team self-selected. Not board designated like PAC.
.@FaauugaMoliga notes his personal experience, being Samoan and growing up in "the projects", it is important for members of that community to know there are others like them in the group. Also, people of color may not want to join a group because of how it operates #BoardWatch
Moliga also notes there are dads in the Pacific Islander PAC, love being in it. Can imagine what it could be like if we pulled in these other communities. #BoardWatch
Final result: The board unanimously agrees to hold off voting on this item #BoardWatch
After consent calendar, President López says board will move to item on Lowell, and then school reopening discussion. Consent calendar was passed. #BoardWatch
The Lowell HS resolution is being read into the record. Here is the resolution for those who would like to read it: go.boarddocs.com/ca/sfusd/Board… #BoardWatch
Do take a read, as you probably know, the "whereas" clauses of the resolution detail the background information contextualizing the policy changes being proposed. #BoardWatch
Here are the proposed changes #BoardWatch
There will be 30 minutes for speakers in favor of the resolution and 30 minutes for speakers opposed to the resolution. We are signing off for tonight but hope that those following who are interested will continue watching the meeting @PPSSFBoardWatch
You can follow along on SFGov TV2 sanfrancisco.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.ph… and can give comment by logging into the the Zoom meeting. Instructions to login here: go.boarddocs.com/ca/sfusd/Board… #BoardWatch
And as a reminder, we have been told that the item on school reopening will be moved up on the agenda and happen right after the discussion/vote on the Lowell HS resolution #BoardWatch
The slides that will be presented on reopening can be found here: go.boarddocs.com/ca/sfusd/Board… #BoardWatch
(Tip: there are also some new FAQs on the SFUSD website today with information about the tentative agreement between SFUSD and labor groups: sfusd.edu/services/healt…) #BoardWatch
(Just one more tip, then I'm logging off: Board Meeting videos for regular meetings get archived here sanfrancisco.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.…, you can skip to any section and also read through "caption notes" of all the audio! It is almost as good as live-tweets—just not quite as "live")
