0/ Clubhouse > Cities by @shl on @joinClubhouse

10 takeaways/ideas👇
1/ Clubhouse allows you to connect with anyone in the world.

Cities limit you to those who reside in the city

Clubhouse opens your network to everyone
2/ What brought people to cities in the first place?
- Jobs
- Opportunities
- People
- Weather
- History

There are things about cities that cannot be replaced by Clubhouse
3/ Clubhouse lowers barriers to entry

CH is like a conference. At the conference there are speakers. When the speakers speak, they have an audience.

It's not likely the speaker is going to invite people from the audience up onto the stage to present with them. CH is different
4/ Cities provide commonality

If you live in the same city, it is easier to connect with people.

You can talk about:
- Local restaurants
- Places to hike
- Things to do
- Sports teams

But so does Clubhouse...
5/ Clubhouse also provides commonality, but at an expense

You can choose which rooms you enter on Clubhouse

You can filter what content you consume

I think this poses a risk

I don't think it is only a risk with Clubhouse, but with social media in general
6/ There is a risk to only consuming information you are interested in

If you are into entrepreneurship and you ONLY follow entrepreneurship-related accounts and engage with entrepreneurial content, that's a risk

You don't get this with cities
7/ There is a difference between communities and networks

Communities are:
- Exclusive
- Moderated and maintained by a central authority
- Smaller in size

Networks are:
- Open
- Moderated by the users
- Larger in size
8/ Some examples of communities are:

1. @dickiebush's Ship 30 for 30
2. @nocodelife Launch MBA
2. Fit Creator Club (in progress) @dbustac and I

Why?

They are exclusive, they are moderated by a central authority, and they are smaller in size.
9/ Some examples of communities turning into networks include:

1. @fortelabs's Building a Second Brain
2. @david_perell's Write of Passage

Why?

They are moderated by users - alumni help operate the course - and they are larger in size. However, they are still exclusive.
10/ Examples of networks include:

1. Facebook
2. LinkedIn
3. Twitter
4. Reddit

Why?

They are open, moderated by users, and larger in size.
11/ Overall, loved this room. It made me want to use Clubhouse much more.

Unlike other social media platforms, Clubhouse feels real. It's responsive. It mimics real-life human interaction.

I don't know if it will replace cities, but it sure is powerful.

My friend made $100,000 off Gamestop!

Are you going to invest?

No.

Absolutely not and neither should you.

There are three reasons you should NOT invest in Gamestop.

mini-thread👇🧵
1/
First, investing in individual stocks is a gamble. It's like spinning the roulette wheel.

Odds are, you are going to lose. So, why even play the game?
2/
Second, Gamestop was acquired because of its brand.

It is a strong brand, but it is going to take time to manifest into something that it is not.

Maybe Gamestop pivots into the world of esports, but it's going to take time.

100+ atomic essays in less than 30 days

Here's how I did it...

I have had a bunch of people ask me...
1. How have you written so much?
2. How do you come up with ideas?
3. How do you write so much in so little time?

In this thread, I'll answer those questions
👇🧵
1/
How have you written so much?

I dropped all constraints.

Anything that was prohibiting me from getting words on the page, I dropped.

1. Planned to write about a topic? I didn't want to write about it? DROPPED

2. Spending too much time w my notetaking system? DROPPED
2/
How do you come up with ideas?

It comes down to a few things:
1. resources
2. conversations.
