Walter Jones spent the last 15 years of his life atoning for his support of the Iraq War. He wrote a form letter he would sign to the families of every soldier who fell in battle. He personally signed every single one of those letters. No autopen. apnews.com/article/d4553a…
Jones is a man I look up to. I didn't agree with him a lot of stuff but he was a man of real character. He was particularly close with fellow eastern NC Rep. GK Butterfield. Butterfield administered the oath of office to Jones for his final term.
Dems tried wooing him back to the party and he was open to it but he felt his stance on abortion would make him too unwelcome in the party these days.
Roy Cooper served with Jones in the NC House, back when Jones was a Democrat. He attended his funeral.
Cooper was in the legislature with Alma Adams, Cherie Berry, Walter Jones, and Kay Hagan.

Colorado State Senator @KerryDonovanCO filed to run for Colorado's 3rd Congressional District today. Donovan represents district 5 in the Colorado Senate. This sprawling western CO district includes several major ski towns. It closely tracks with the statewide margin.
Rep. Virginia Foxx has a primary challenger. She will be 79 on election day and it's unclear if she's even running again. Hines is a former NC State football player.
I have something of an interest in pre-Columbian cultures.
Was always more interested in the Inca though. One of my best papers in college was about the Inca. Really fascinating society. They built a sprawling civilization with limited resources.
