When McCarthy called Trump and said the Capitol was under siege, POTUS initially blamed Antifa, JHB says.

McC pushed back and said the rioters were Trump supporters.

“Well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are,” Trump replied.
.@HerreraBeutler told constituents during town hall that Trump’s call with McCarthy on 1/6 was “chilling”

“The president was basically saying ‘nah, I’m OK with this’” as the Capitol was under attack, JHB said. chronline.com/news/as-impeac…
JHB also told her local paper, The Daily News, last month about the McCarthy/Trump call on 1/6.

“The President said, ‘Kevin, they’re not my people.’”

“‘Yes they are, they just came through my windows and my staff is running for cover. Yeah, they’re your people. Call them off”

RASKIN says they now want to call Rep. @HerreraBeutler to testify about McCarthy/Trump call on Jan. 6

Defense replies by saying they will need 100 depositions
Defense attorney VDV says @GOPLeader McCARTHY refutes the account of the Jan. 6 call with Trump, calls the report "rumor"
VDV says he'll have to call @SpeakerPelosi and @KamalaHarris as witnesses
Senators burst into laughter when defense attorney VDV says he want to take depositions in person in his office in Philadelphia, including Kamala Harris
Senate voting NOW whether to call witnesses
We will have witnesses. Romney, Murkowski, Sasse and Collin all vote YES.

Graham then changes his vote to yes, presumably to support idea of calling witnesses for the defense team
Senate vote is 55-45 to call witnesses. 5 Republicans side with all Democrats
House sources said Dems would try to call witnesses and prolong the impeachment trial if they felt things were going well for them.
Senate votes to hear witnesses in Trump trial thehill.com/homenews/senat…
.@maziehirono tells us she wants Trump to be deposed
McConnell has left the Senate floor and went back into his office
GOP senators now saying they are expecting a bipartisan deal on witnesses any minute.

So unlikely this will be something that drags out for days or weeks
BRAUN says Rs are prepared to allow a news article about the McCarthy/Trump call based on JHB account, into the record in exchange for Dems dropping request to depose JHB. Trial would proceed to closing arguments and final vote today. Per pool
COONS says most senators would be on board with this plan to enter JHB statement into record
.@SenBrianSchatz on admitting JHB statement into record: “I think it’s a reasonable deal” Per pool.
RASKIN reads @HerreraBeutler’s statement about McCarthy/Trump phone call on Jan. 6 into the record.

It does not appear there will be any witnesses called.
So after that 11th hour drama, there will be no witnesses after all
RASKIN’s closing arguments: Reading statements of two GOP women — Herrera Beutler and Liz Cheney — slamming Trump for inciting Jan. 6 insurrection.

“There has never been a greater betrayal” by an American president, @RepLizCheney said of Trump
“In my mind, Liz Cheney is a hero for standing up for the truth” — @RepRaskin
RASKIN says McCarthy's 1/6 call with Trump reveals:

"Trump was doing nothing to help the ppl in this room or this building. It's now clear beyond doubt that Trump supported the actions of the mob."
.@RepCicilline says @SenMikeLee has now clarified the call between Trump/Tuberville occurred at 2:26 p.m. Jan. 6.

Tuberville informed Trump in that call that Pence had been evacuated from the Senate as the mob descended.

That's now been entered into the record.
Here is the timeline now offered by prosecution:

Remember, Trump called Mike Lee at 2:26 p.m. but had been looking for Tuberville so Lee passes the phone to him
.@SenMikeLee tries to interject saying Cicilline said something not true.

Leahy overrules saying there is no debate allowed
.@MadeleineDean says that hundreds of yrs from now none of the people in room will likely be remembered.

But history will remember what lawmakers did in this moment.

“History has found us,” she says

.@RepTedLieu pointing out that key former Trump officials --- Mattis, John Kelly, Bolton, Mulvaney, McMaster & Farah -- blamed Trump for fomenting violence at the Capitol on 1/6
Lieu puts quote up on screen from Trump's Transpo Sec Elaine Chao, who resigned from Cabinet over the 1/6 attack.

She just happens to be wife of Mitch McConnell
Lieu says he's not afraid of Trump running for president again. He's afraid of Trump losing the presidency again and provoking another attack on Capitol

NEW: House impeachment managers team confirms it will show previously unseen Capitol security camera footage in Senate impeachment trial today
"We'll be using footage never seen before that shows a view of the Capitol that is quite extraordinary, and a view of the attack that has never been public before," says a senior aide on House impeach managers' team
Unclear if Dem impeachment managers have access to body cams from DC Metro Police, who were assisting on 1/6.

Capitol Police don't have body cams but some officers, I'm told, used their personal iPhones to record the rioters attacking them.

GOP senators really piling on Trump attorney Castor
"I think the trial is a waste of time" says @SenTedCruz, former TX solicitor general.

He adds that Trump attorneys were not terribly effective and praises Raskin.

"Jamie Raskin was impressive. He's a serious lawyer"
COLLINS: "I was perplexed by the first [Trump] attorney who did not seem to make any arguments at all"

DEMS’ TRIAL STRATEGY: The nine House impeachment managers plan to avoid any long or abstract legal analysis in favor of efforts to tell the “gripping and spellbinding story” of how Trump incited the deadly insurrection at the Capitol on Jan. 6.

thehill.com/homenews/house…
“The case for the president’s guilt is overwhelming and the evidence is devastating,” one impeachment manager says. “We’re going to tell America the gripping and spellbinding story of what happened on Jan. 6.”
The nine House prosecutors plan to use video in this week's Senate trial. LOTS OF IT.

Unclear, however, if they will have access to previously unseen surveillance video from the dozens of security cameras in the Capitol or will only us footage in the public domain.
