NEW: Dallas County Reports 939 New Positive 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Cases and 8 Deaths, Including 170 Probable Cases ImageImageImageImage
This week we end with a significant decrease in the average daily number of new COVID cases, down from 1,388 to 990. We report an additional eight deaths today, making this the second deadliest week of the pandemic response.
As vaccinations continue to become more readily available, and if we can continue our resolve to make the small sacrifices of patriotism to keep ourselves, our community and our country as strong as possible until we can reach herd immunity...
...we will defeat COVID much sooner than if we falter in our resolve.
The winter weather will obviously have an effect this week on the number of vaccines that we can get out. When we open again, we will focus on those whose 28-day appointments were on Friday (2/12).
We are likely to be open for operations inside of the building at Fair Park similar to what we did yesterday until the weather permits the reopening of the drive-thru, hopefully next Saturday or Sunday.
We will catch up with everyone’s second doses and that will be our focus until those second shots are caught up.
We are working each day through the winter storms on a host of logistical issues to improve throughput times and amounts and are committed to ensuring that we vaccinate as many people as possible when the chance to do so arrives.

The situation with @ERCOT_ISO is very serious and unprecedented. If your conservation efforts and rolling blackouts are not successful, control of the grid could be lost. @oncor is working closely with my office and emergency managers...:
At this time, @oncor cannot guarantee a maximum amount of time your power may be out. I have advised them that,to the fullest extent possible, neighborhoods should be cycled so we all share in the loss of power so as to lessen the time any neighborhood is without power.
In the power industry you have Peaker Plants. Peaker Plants are older, expensive and inefficient. They operate when there is extreme need. Some have come online, others are about to. We are working hard with @oncor to get your power back on and limit the time of rolling blackouts.

.@ERCOT_ISO @oncor and I are requesting everyone to reduce electric use as much as possible now through Tuesday. The state is experiencing record-breaking electric demand due to the extreme temperatures and higher-than-normal generation outages due to frozen wind turbines...
and limited natural gas supplies available to generating facilities.
Here is how we can all do our part to avoid brown outs:
· Turn down thermostats to 68-degrees.
· Close shades and blinds to reduce the amount of heat lost through windows.
·...
· Turn off and unplug non-essential lights and appliances.
· Avoid using large appliances (i.e., ovens, washing machines, etc.).
· Businesses should minimize the use of electric lighting and electricity-consuming equipment as much as possible....

Including 258 Probable Cases
Today we report 1,637 new COVID cases and 37 deaths, our second highest one-day total of deaths reported.
Now is a time that we all must make small sacrifices to keep our community and our country strong at this time of unprecedented high spread and while we await the herd immunity that will come from the vast majority of the population being inoculated.

NEW: Dallas County Reports 1,671 New Positive 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Cases and 40 Deaths,
Including 274 Probable Cases
Today we report another 1,671 COVID cases and 40 additional deaths, making this the deadliest day thus far in the battle against COVID. These deaths are a result of the high number of COVID cases that have been reported over the last several weeks.
Increased deaths always follows increased infections. The decisions we make today will impact the number of COVID cases reported 10-14 days from now and the number of deaths reported at this time next month.

Today we report 1,858 new COVID cases and 22 deaths, ranging in ages from a man in his 40’s to individuals in their 90’s.
Medical experts continue to predict that January and February will be challenging months for COVID but I continue to hope we’ll turn the corner soon as vaccine production ramps up and is more accessible to our community.
