.@ERCOT_ISO @oncor and I are requesting everyone to reduce electric use as much as possible now through Tuesday. The state is experiencing record-breaking electric demand due to the extreme temperatures and higher-than-normal generation outages due to frozen wind turbines...
and limited natural gas supplies available to generating facilities.
Here is how we can all do our part to avoid brown outs:
· Turn down thermostats to 68-degrees.
· Close shades and blinds to reduce the amount of heat lost through windows.
·...
· Turn off and unplug non-essential lights and appliances.
· Avoid using large appliances (i.e., ovens, washing machines, etc.).
· Businesses should minimize the use of electric lighting and electricity-consuming equipment as much as possible....
All businesses are asked to let employees work from home. It’s especially important that large consumers of electricity consider shutting down or reducing non-essential production processes.

@oncor Customers can report outages through the MyOncor app or by calling 888.313.4747
Please continue to keep safety top of mind throughout this weather event: keep off the roads as much as possible, check on neighbors and immediately report downed power lines by calling 911.

Beyond that; don’t stress and find the joy in every situation. Happy Valentine’s all❣️

Just had call with Oncor’s CEO and senior leadership. The power generation increase @ERCOT_ISO forecast for last night didn’t happen. During our call ERCOT demanded an additional 500 megawatts be pulled from transmission bringing the up to the minute total to 18,500 shed...
280k customers in @DallasCountyTx without power. @oncor reports they were able to cycle most customers with extended outages on for roughly 30 minutes an average of three times last night but many didn’t get that. Transformers are breaking and where that is happening....
Power won’t come on. That adds to the complexity of the problem. Transformer issues are increasing but not yet widespread. I believe the main problem is a lack of generation as plants and turbines that weren’t required to winterize continue to be offline.

The situation with @ERCOT_ISO is very serious and unprecedented. If your conservation efforts and rolling blackouts are not successful, control of the grid could be lost. @oncor is working closely with my office and emergency managers...:
At this time, @oncor cannot guarantee a maximum amount of time your power may be out. I have advised them that,to the fullest extent possible, neighborhoods should be cycled so we all share in the loss of power so as to lessen the time any neighborhood is without power.
In the power industry you have Peaker Plants. Peaker Plants are older, expensive and inefficient. They operate when there is extreme need. Some have come online, others are about to. We are working hard with @oncor to get your power back on and limit the time of rolling blackouts.

All Texas residents in 1B can sign up at any or all of these state vaccination hubs. Some set appointments based on vulnerability, others by order of sign up and others a hybrid of the two. To increase your chances sign up in as many as possible. Hyperlinks in thread.

NEW: Dallas County Reports 1,671 New Positive 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Cases and 40 Deaths,
Including 274 Probable Cases
Today we report another 1,671 COVID cases and 40 additional deaths, making this the deadliest day thus far in the battle against COVID. These deaths are a result of the high number of COVID cases that have been reported over the last several weeks.
Increased deaths always follows increased infections. The decisions we make today will impact the number of COVID cases reported 10-14 days from now and the number of deaths reported at this time next month.
