It's a real request @GavinWilliamson - I've written a piece on this for @BylineTimes and it's out tomorrow. I can find not a single example of free speech being curtailed. Can you please give us solid examples
I watched the 1974 remake of Brief Encounter today. It's just as good as the original, only without the warmth, direction, cinematography, Celia Howard, Rachmaninoff, claustrophobia and beauty of the original.
In one memorable sequence, Sophia Loren gets off a train onto a platform marked "Winchester" and then is seen leaving the station with the word Brockenhurst over the exit.
I've put "Celia Howard" there because my brain now hurts
‘Covid denier’ Gary Matthews dies from virus day after testing positive. He didn't wear a mask, or take precautions and continued to meet friends after falling for conspiracy theories online. A victim of the anti-mask, anti-lockdown brigade. standard.co.uk/news/uk/covid-…
Gary isn't the first or last person in history who has fallen prey to conspiracy theories, propagated by "smart people" or well known names. Hitchens and Hartley-Brewer and co are well known and erudite people. By endorsing this stuff they have justified it for many.
But of course they'll never accept they're wrong. There will be a lot of other Garys.
Boris Johnson knew Brexit was a great cart of mildewed dung from the start. He only hooked his ego to the wagon because he wanted to be Head Boy. The Tory true believers are a cult of fantasists, weirdos and oddballs who clung to this nonsense to satiate childhood fantasies.
Of course it was never going to work. Of course it was going to be a disaster. Just a cursory look at what Brexit meant showed that it would harm ordinary Britons, make life harder and send us into a downward spiral. You didn't have to be Paul Nuttall brilliant to work it out.
But I would say that.... because I'm a Remoaner or something... actually I'm not a *Remoaner* it's more simple than that. I'm just sane.
I genuinely thought this was a joke. But it isn't. The UKIP candidate for London Mayor really is called 'Peter Gammons' and his twitter account and campaign slogan genuinely is 'Gammons 4 London'.
I mean how on Earth are satirists meant to find work in this climate? Aren't things hard enough? It's like Richard Braine all over again.
According to Joe - Dr Gammons' qualifications are a BA, MA and DMin (Doctor of Ministry) degrees from Presbyterian Faith Theological Seminary. I've just watched his campaign video on Facebook - apparently he's given talks to millions of people and is an adviser to world leaders
