The rail bridge was higher and longer and used as a “temporary” bridge, adjacent road bridge washed away.
It was the “temporary” bridge for over 20 years.
Rails were removed and bridge decked for road vehicles, odd one didn't make it across ...
The present-day John McKenzie Bridge was constructed just slightly upstream of the original road bridge.

The line was duplicated to Mitchelton in 1953, and the first automatic level crossing boom gates in Queensland were installed at Wilston Road, Newmarket in 1954.
Some sections of the former line from Ferny Grove now make up the Ferny Grove rail trail.

The line to Yarraman now forms the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. One of the best in our nation. I was fortunate to travel to Yarraman by rail on the second last train.
It was a marvellous example of a Queensland branch line. visitbrisbane.com.au/somerset/thing…
