First Minister @NicolaSturgeon: "I'll give a very quick update on today's statistics. 1,121 new cases were reported yesterday. That's 5.2% of all of the tests carried out, and takes the overall number of cases to 194,269."
NS: "1,317 people are currently in hospital with Covid. That's 66 fewer than yesterday. 99 people are receiving intensive care, which is 1 fewer than yesterday."
NS: "However, I'm sorry to report that 64 more deaths were registered of patients who first tested positive over the previous 28 days, and so the total number of people who have died under this daily measurement is now 6,828."
NS: "However, National Records of Scotland has just published its weekly update, which includes cases where Covid is a suspected or contributory cause of death..."
NS: "..and today's update shows that, by Sunday, the total number of registered deaths linked to Covid under the wider definition was 9,053."
NS: "323 of these were registered last week. That is 54 fewer than over the previous week. And again, my condolences go to everyone who has lost someone."
NS: "Now, every death from Covid is deeply regrettable, and for that reason it never feels quite right to talk about encouraging news in the context of the NRS report."
NS: "However, there are aspects of today's report that really do bear some emphasis because they give us, I think, the first hard evidence of the positive impact of vaccination."
NS: "Deaths, overall, have fallen now for three consecutive weeks. Deaths that occurred in hospitals have fallen over that three-week period by 11%. And deaths occurring in people's own homes or in other non-institutional settings have fallen by 29%."
NS: "However, deaths in care homes, which were the early focus of the vaccination programme, have fallen by 62%."
NS: "In fact, with the exception of one week at the end of August, when there were only 2 Covid deaths registered overall, care homes accounted for a smaller proportion of overall Covid deaths last week than at any time since March of last year."
NS: "I think that is positive news given the toll that the virus has taken on our care homes. More generally, the age breakdown of the total number of deaths over the last three weeks shows that the largest reduction, a reduction of 45%, was in the over-85 age group."
NS: "And, of course, over-80s living in the community were the next priority focus of the programme."
NS: "So I think it is reasonable to take some heart from this, because it strongly suggests that the vaccine programme is having the hoped-for effect of reducing the death toll from the virus."
NS: "On the vaccination programme more generally, I can report that, as of 8:30am this morning, 1,320,074 people had received the first dose, which is an increase of 32,070 since yesteray."
NS: "As I indicated yesterday, we've offered first doses to all over-70s, all care home residents, all frontline health and care workers, and all people with a serious clinical vulnerability, and 64% of 65 to 69-year-olds have also now received the first dose."
NS: "And again, I want to thank everyone involved in delivering the programme."
NS: "There's just one final point I want to quickly highlight today which is that, from tomorrow, the advice given to close contacts of people who test positive for Covid will change."
NS: "As well as being asked to isolate for ten days, they will also now be asked, as a matter of course, to get tested as well."
NS: "If they then test positive, their contacts will be traced, and more chains of transmission will be broken. So this is a further strengthening of Test & Protect."
NS: "Now, as I confirmed yesterday, next week we will publish our revised strategic framework, which will set out the data principles and priorities that will guide our gradual exit from lockdown when the time is right."
NS: "But for now, if we want to maintain the good progress we are seeing, and avoid setbacks, we must stick with it.

If I can end by continuing to urge people to stay at home, except for essential purposes, so we can continue to protect the NHS and, of course, save lives."

Deputy First Minister @JohnSwinney: "Good afternoon. Thank you very much for joining us today. I'm joined by the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Gregor Smith, who'll be helping me to answer questions this afternoon.”
JS: "Let me start with the usual statistics. The total number of positive cases reported yesterday was 885. That represents 4.4% of the total number of tests, and takes the total number of confirmed cases in Scotland to 195,839."
JS: "It's worth noting that the Office for National Statistics has just published the latest results of the Covid-19 infection survey for Scotland."

First Minister @NicolaSturgeon: "Thanks for joining us again. As usual, I will give a run-through of today's statistics, beginning with the total number of positive cases reported yesterday - that was 685."
NS: "Which is 3.8% of the total number of tests and means that the overall number of confirmed cases is now 194,954."
NS: "As you've heard me do many times before I will caution against reading too much into a single day's figure but obviously that's a lower test positivity than we've had for some time, and gives us further reason to be hopeful that's going very firmly in the right direction."

📣 @KateForbesMSP: "We've seen that suppressing the virus and saving lives is the fastest way to get our economy back up and running.

The danger is that if we move too quickly and don't take a cautious approach, we end up having to lock down more severely again." #bbcdn Image
📣 @KateForbesMSP: "There's a lot of glimmers of hope right now.

We've moved quickly to accelerate vaccinations, we are seeing the virus being suppressed, and that means we can look ahead to a way through the current restrictions." #bbcdn
📣 @KateForbesMSP: "In terms of the phasing out of lockdown, we want to prioritise schools, then family contact, and then prioritise some return to economic trading starting with non-essential trading." #bbcdn

First Minister @NicolaSturgeon at #FMQs: "One of the key points is this one. What we found ourselves dealing with in February/March of this year was not a flu pandemic."
NS: "And therefore, no amount of preparedness for a flu pandemic would've been sufficient in the face of the situation that we actually encountered." #FMQs
NS: "In fact, if I reflect back on the last ten months - and this will be something for proper scrutiny in the fullness of time - I actually think the more valid criticism of both the Scottish Government and, indeed, governments across the western world..." #FMQs
