"Alex Cole-Hamilton, a Liberal Democrat MSP, highlighted the worrying fact it is easier to deliver takeaway menus in Scotland than campaign leaflets."
"Takeaway leaflets"!
That explains the @scotlibdems philosophy - 'take it or leave it'!
Many prefer the latter choice!
He wrote in the Edinburgh Evening News: “I’ve no problem with an election in the spring. I relish the idea of putting forward a positive alternative to the SNP.
Sorry, but loads of relish does not make the 'takeaway' any more palatable!! 😝
“I’m concerned that we cannot ask the public to render a judgement on who they wish to serve them in Parliament, if the only voice they hear in that campaign is that of the First Minister from her lunchtime briefings.”
Scots HAVE chosen @theSNP as their elected government!
"Due to coronavirus regulations, Mr Cole-Hamilton alleges it is currently “illegal” to post political leaflets through people’s doors."
“Ministers have decided that the risk of viral transmission is higher on political leaflets than it is on any other kind of paper.”
Given the toxicity of debate from some MSPs, precautions are advisable.
A health warning to those of sound mind perhaps? @JeaneF1MSP 🤔
"Cameras covering a virtual meeting of the Equalities and Human Rights Committee appeared to show the Lib Dem saying: "F*** you, Maree.""
"He, @agcolehamilton accepted that he had "muttered something under my breath that I shouldn't have", and apologised to the minister."
@MareeToddMSP however tweeted to him: "No Alex. You do not get away with that."
"It was an appalling way to behave towards a female colleague. You do not get to blame me for your bad behaviour."
Totally unacceptable conduct, on many levels and warrants disciplinary action.
"Ms Todd also said while the "swearing is appalling the face contorted with anger also requires some explanation", adding that she would be "grateful to hear it"."
"Mr Cole-Hamilton said: “It’s a curious thing, but right now in Scotland, you can deliver mail if you’re a postie or takeaway menus if you’re a restaurant owner,...""
"...but if you want to deliver leaflets which might criticise the SNP government or set out an alternative point of view, that’s illegal.""
The reasoning behind "essential work or travel", applies also to 'essential' leafleting.
Whilst leafleting from restaurant owners provides useful information on essential home food delivery services for those dependent upon food deliveries - political bluff and bluster, in varying degrees of toxicity from politicians can hardly be regarded as useful nor essential!
"The Liberal Democrat commented: “I’m happy to fight the election, but the SNP must not be allowed to use the pandemic to suppress the activities of their opponents.”"
It would appear that @agcolehamilton feels quite at liberty to express himself, without due regard or respect for colleagues in @scotgov and @ScotParl .
Scots have heard what you have to say - loud and clear!
Freedom of speech is one thing but vilification of colleagues and their public offices, in the interests of one's own political ambitions, is quite another matter and not one that could possibly be construed as democratic!
"Not for the first time, the Tories have been accused of proposing new laws which strongly resemble fascism."
"Meanwhile, all of this is coming from a government which appears to be simultaneously seeking to dictate how Britain’s history is told."
"Jason Stanley, a philosophy professor at Yale University, succinctly summed up his thoughts on the current state of affairs by highlighting two short passages of his book, How Fascism Works: The Politics of Us and Them."
“Here’s what’s happening in the UK right now,” he wrote on Twitter, showing two graphics highlighting key aspects of fascism.
"Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Mr Martin said: "We need to dial down the rhetoric on both sides.""
"He added that people need to bear in mind that it is only about six weeks since the Brexit deal was agreed."
"I would say in the context of the island of Ireland and Northern Ireland and we all need to cool it down because I think that the debate around protocol got to too high a level, and tensions were rising unnecessarily."
"Scotland's Constitution Secretary Mike Russell said the new law will mean, on devolved matters, Scottish law can keep in line with those in Europe "when appropriate and practicable to do so"."
"The SNP politician also said the new law will make it much easier for Scotland to rejoin the EU if the country gained independence from the UK."
"Express.co.uk readers have reacted furiously to the news, as they claim SNP was wasting resources when it should have been focusing on the coronavirus pandemic and the needs of Scottish people."
#Express at it again - Telling readers how they should think & feel!
"No matter how bad the economy might look, no matter what government ineptitude might be revealed, no matter the injustices arising from people, corporations or institutions on the make – " 1/2
We need look no further than Tory UK Government, it's donors and loyal supporters!
"I believed that given the freedom of speech and expression, the freedom of association and reliable rule of law, British people – who enjoy those liberties and are innocent until proven otherwise – could tackle all the problems we face."
This glosses over Brexit corruption!
"I would ask why should Scots settle for running Scotland when we could run Britain?"
