Welcome to Odin’s Day, heretics. Shall we go forth with our news roundup for secular-skeptic types? We shall. Today's Morning Heresy episode, "A Fiction Created By Some People." Thread! centerforinquiry.org/blog/a-fiction…
First, a reminder that tomorrow at 7pm ET on Skeptical Inquirer Presents we have the climate warrior himself, Michael E. Mann, who’s going to tell us how to win the new climate war. Get thyself registered!
On February 23 on CFI Insider, we get to meet CFI’s director of libraries Tim Binga! (I mean I’ve met him already, but maybe you haven’t.) He’ll be talking about the wealth of skeptic-secular-humanist materials he curates and cares for. Register for that!
In our quest to confront the fraud of homeopathic fake medicine, we are appealing to those whom consumers trust most to guide them in their medication purchasing decisions: pharmacists.
In a message to the Joint Commission of Pharmacy Practitioners, we’re all, 'Hey pharmies (can we call you “pharmies”? no? sorry), earn the trust you’ve been given and tell folks not to buy fake medicine, please.'
(What we actually said was stuff like, “Pharmacists have an ethical and moral obligation to ensure that patients are safe, not a profit source,” but it’s early and I’m punchy.)
.@dorfonlaw at @VerdictJustia looks at “the new conservative enthusiasm for religious exceptions” on the Supreme Court. “We are left with the impression that they believe in robust religious freedom only for those with whom they empathize.” verdict.justia.com/2021/02/17/the…
.@JoanBiskupic at CNN writes, “It is clear by their statements that individual justices on the right think religion is under siege in America.” cnn.com/2021/02/17/pol…
Religion makes policing anti-vaxxer misinformation harder. @KolinaKoltai tells @lizzadwoskin: “Linking misinformation to religion can be difficult to combat because a person may feel like they are being attacked for their religious beliefs.” washingtonpost.com/technology/202…
.@PRRI: 89% of Americans agree that “everyone is free to follow their religious beliefs and practices in their personal lives, provided they do not cause harm to others.” But 39% say “I feel like my religious liberty is being threatened.” Come on. prri.org/research/is-re…
.@PewReligion shows that 21% of Black Americans are religiously unaffiliated, but only 1% identify as atheist, 2% as agnostic. Most unaffiliated Black Americans still believe in some higher power that most still pray to. Via @hemantmehta
Florida’s House passed a “moment of silence” (cough prayer cough) bill for public schools. The bill’s author, Rep. Randy Fine, says the separation of church and state “is a fiction that has been created by some people,” so, you know. @RenzoDowney reports: floridapolitics.com/archives/40407…
If you live in #Indiana, you really need to tell your state lawmakers to stop the expansion of a school voucher program, funneling taxpayer dollars to private religious schools. centerforinquiry.org/alerts/indiana…
Today I learned about a guy in Florida who stomped around the beach in giant three-toed shoes in 1948 to make people think there was a giant penguin on the loose.
That'll do for today. There's a bit more at the blog and you can also get all this hot news link stuff in your email by heading here: centerforinquiry.org/newsletter/?ut…
Until tomorrow.

Welcome back to the work week, heretics, unless of course your workplace gives you President’s Day off, in which case you might be sleeping in, in which case good afternoon. Let’s see what’s up in the news. Thread ahoy. centerforinquiry.org/blog/an-unusab…
More drama from our lawsuit on behalf of Secular Celebrants in Texas: an appeals court dismissed the case on some nitpicky, technical grounds about standing and redressability, so we’re just going to come right back.
“We remain determined and enthusiastic to continue the fight in Texas,” said our legal director Nick Little. “Nonreligious couples in Texas deserve the same rights as the religious—a principal so obvious is should hardly need stating, let alone litigated. centerforinquiry.org/press_releases…
