Rush Limbaugh was on national radio, so the mainstream media viewed him as one of their own. Today is a case study in how the mainstream media protects its own. Every obituary about him, even from liberal outlets, normalizes him and pretends he wasn't a peddler of deranged lies.

"He was a conservative."

No, he constantly promoted lies and phony conspiracy theories that went beyond any legitimate political view.

"He was controversial."

No, he consistently hurled hate speech at women, minorities and people with diseases, to try to harm them.

Yet many of these same liberal mainstream media outlets that are normalizing and sanitizing Limbaugh in his obituary today, have never hesitated to dishonestly smear someone like me, Seth Abramson, and others.

Simply because Limbaugh was in the mainstream media, and we're not.

The sad part is that everyone in the mainstream media surely despised Limbaugh, and agreed that he was nothing more than a peddler of deranged lies. But they still care more about protecting the mainstream media's collective power, than about calling Limbaugh what he was.

If the mainstream media truly wants to retain its collective power, it needs to let go of the paranoia that causes it to view honest brokers like Palmer Report as a threat to its dominance, and start viewing the most dishonest members of its own fraternity as its biggest threat.

When the mainstream media bends over backward to let a lying monster like Limbaugh off the hook simply because he was technically mainstream media, THAT is what causes the public to lose faith in the mainstream media, and increasingly turn to honest brokers like Palmer Report.

I want the mainstream media to be honest, respected, successful. I want Palmer Report to be just a supplement to it. But the media just doesn't seem to want to save itself. Which is why I'm now compelled to turn Palmer Report into a mainstream media outlet, and fix the industry.
