Currently, more than 4 million people have been without power in Texas for nearly 48 hours in the coldest temperatures Texas has faced in 30 years. It’s @GOP Governor @GregAbbott_TX and senators @tedcruz and @JohnCornyn couldn’t care less.
While many people are still without power or essential items, multiple nonprofit organizations are providing supplies, while warming centers have been set up throughout the state.
Here are some helpful resources:
@lakewoodchurch has a list of warming centers.
.@AustinEHM have activated 24 hour cold weather shelters that accept anyone in need.
Local organizations suggest donating blankets, gloves, coats, shoes, food, & other supplies to nonprofit organizations. If you’re not local to Texas, there are ways to donate money or supplies to local shelters. Here are a list of organizations you can donate to right now.
3.) Free Lunch: Providing meals to those in need.

4) @austinpetsalive is a rescue organization for animals facing dire life and death circumstances like those in Texas right now. They have helped rescue tens of thousands of animals across the country in emergency situations. austinpetsalive.org
5.) Maximize Hope/Provide Warmth is a local organization providing hotel rooms for people without a warm place to stay as well as other supplies.

6.) Our Calling is a faith-based organization that leads the homeless to live a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. Homeless people are particularly vulnerable during extreme weather conditions like what Texas is experiencing right now.
ourcalling.org
7.) Here is a list of Homeless Shelters in Dallas. Even if you are not homeless but simply without power/necessities, they can help you.
8.) The Way Home is an effort to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-reoccurring in Houston, Pasadena, Harris County, Fort Bend County, and Montgomery County, Texas. Their site has a list of shelters in all of these counties as well as a donation link:
thewayhomehouston.org/about-us/
9.) Here’s a site with a homeless center directory for all of Austin. They also provide contact numbers and addresses for each center and links to donate to help fight homelessness and those struggling to survive in Texas right now. homelessshelterdirectory.org/cgi-bin/id/cit…
If anyone knows of any other organizations for us to donate to, please feel free to add them in the replies and I will retweet them. As someone who’s been without power for more than a day in the winter, please believe me that these people need our help and any amount helps.

The @GOP and right-wing media has expressed more heartfelt condolences over the loss of a pro-slavery, white supremacist, anti-gay, domestic terrorism-denying misogynistic conspiracy theorist & propagandist than they have for the nearly 500,000 Americans that have died from COVID
Rush Limbaugh’s legacy was defined by his own words, rhetoric, and actions over the course of his life. Here’s a rundown of what that looked like. Pretending he’s someone worthy of praise or honor is simply ignoring reality. This is who he was:
Here’s a thread I wrote last February after Trump gave Rush the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which normally designates prestige and honor but coming from Trump was basically a “Worst Human On Earth Award”

So we have an official list of Republican senators who believe it’s fine to incite terrorist insurrections that kill police officers and threaten to overthrow the U.S. government. Let’s make them famous and start organizing to remove EVERY LAST ONE from office right now (Thread)

If only there was some solid evidence PROVING Trump incited the deadly violence at the Capitol on Jan 6th....

Oh wait, him and his surrogates and family members are ON VIDEO calling for his army of terrorists to lay siege to it

Not enough? Ok, how about satellite data showing the location of all of his rally attendants on January 6th. Watch the time and their location.

And while I’m glad Trump holds the distinct “honor” of being the only “President” in American history to lose the popular vote twice and be impeached by the House twice, he needs to actually be convicted. Because his “Presidency” was just a crime spree.

The Constitution does NOT require that a person still hold office to be impeached OR convicted. And the 1st Amendment says you can’t be arrested for what you say; it does not say that there are no consequences for lying about a “stolen election” to incite a terrorist insurrection
I’ve written threads addressing both of these arguments and why they are incorrect. The 1st amendment one can be found here:
Here’s the one about how Trump not only can but MUST BE CONVICTED even if it’s after he leaves office:

Can anyone think of any other jobs where working to get your boss assassinated not only doesn’t get you fired, but keeps you from getting arrested? And why on earth would we make the U.S. Congress the one place where this is the case?
Also; just like Trump didn’t actually have any constitutional immunity from prosecution while he was in office, these people don’t have any actually immunity from arrest, censure, expulsion, or prosecution either. Article 1, Section 6, Clause 1 is not a get out of jail free card
It shields members from being arrested on their way to a vote WHO *DIDN’T* COMMIT FELONIES, *AREN’T* BREACHING THE PEACE BY REFUSING TO HAND OVER THEIR GUNS OR WALK THROUGH METAL DETECTORS, AND WHO *DIDN’T* JUST INCITE A DEADLY TREASONOUS INSURRECTION. Those parts are important.

I don’t think this assumption is right, Seth. A second senate “acquittal” might not bar him from holding future office, but conviction in actual court, where he faces countless indictments from multiple state AG’s for his endless crimes would. You’ve documented those crimes.
The notion that GOP senators up for reelection in 2022 would vote once again to absolve a blatantly guilty man who cost them the senate, the house, the WH, and incited a seditious insurrection that directly put all their lives at risk seems questionable at best.
And even if they did, this does not grant him immunity from prosecution from his crimes committed at the state level throughout the past 4 years. A single conviction in any of those cases would preclude his ability to run in 2024.
