The U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 is proof of the power of the organizers & activists who helped deliver this moment.

This is the first time a proposal doesn't start by increasing $$ for the deportation system or requiring more immigrants be detained in exchange for citizenship.
While this is a moment to celebrate it is also a reminder to keep pushing forward. We know that immigrants are being deported and need relief right now, and that even this bill leaves some people out.
We need @POTUS and Democrats in Congress to act quickly to deliver a pathway to citizenship for ALL undocumented immigrants through any means possible, including the next COVID-19 relief & recovery packages.

This historic day is the culmination of over four years of grueling work for many of us, so enjoy it. You made this possible by standing up and continuing to fight for our democracy during some of its darkest moments. We hope you're as proud of all your accomplishments as we are.
The past four-plus years have been traumatic for most of our country. Unfortunately, we know it will take more than a new president to stop the pandemic, emboldened white supremacists, a broken democracy or many of the other crises that President-elect Biden inherits. It's on us.

H.R. 1 (the For the People Act) has been introduced in the House. This would be a massive step toward finally, for the first time, establishing a democracy in this country that works by, for, and of the people. 🧵
The For the People Act is a monumental package of democracy reforms that will center voters by dismantling the system that allows big money to call the shots in politics.

Our democracy has been rigged in favor of white people and the wealthy from the jump.
And huge corporations and special interests have only entrenched their power over the years, paying big money to influence the outcome of our elections and support legislators who will protect them from accountability.

🧵 Yesterday, DC Rep. @EleanorNorton introduced the DC Statehood Bill with a record 202 original co-sponsors. This, along with the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, are the cornerstones for necessary democracy reform.
American democracy is built on the promise that all people should have a say in our federal government through elected representatives.

However, that is not the case for the 700,000 Americans who live in DC: indivisible.org/resource/makin…
Unlike citizens who live in one of America’s 50 states, DC residents lack:

❌ Voting representation in the House
❌ Any representation in the Senate

Senate Republicans' bogus confirmation hearing for Amy Coney Barrett begins today.

Filling a Supreme Court vacancy this close to an election is unprecedented.

Trying to rush through the process despite a COVID-19 outbreak shows the GOP's desperation. savescotus.indivisible.org
The GOP is prioritizing a political power grab over pandemic relief.

Republicans who were exposed to COVID at the superspreader event that was Barrett’s announcement ceremony are even refusing to get tested or quarantine, putting lives at risk just to avoid delaying the hearing.
Amy Coney Barrett is a direct threat to Ruth Bader Ginsburg's legacy.

She has consistently demonstrated her right-wing extremism throughout her career.

She would uphold Trump’s agenda for decades to come if confirmed.

We knew that Donald Trump's pick to fill the Supreme Court vacancy would be bad -- especially under these circumstances -- but Amy Coney Barrett is a truly horrifying pick.

Judge Barrett is a conservative’s dream to fill RBG’s seat.
Let us explain why. 👇
She's heavily criticized Roe v. Wade -- calling the landmark ruling "a framework of abortion on demand" -- and made clear that she will ignore precedent and overturn laws as she sees fit. She's attacked efforts to ensure access to contraception as an assault on religious liberty.
She's openly opposed the Affordable Care Act, critiquing the Supreme Court's decision to uphold the individual mandate. Another ACA case is scheduled to begin just one week after November’s election. Confirming Coney Barrett would be an insurmountable barrier to the ACA's future.
