We are researching #IBD because it affects millions of people worldwide, especially young adults 👦🏻👧🏻 Moreover, we target two of the most frequent IBD subtypes: #Crohns disease and ulcerative #colitis 👇🏻
We focus on the main issue of #IBD: inflammation 🔥 In this condition, the patient’s immune system attacks their #intestine as if it were an external agent.
To stop this inflammation, we address the root of the problem - the activation of immune cells which depends on two proteins. These are the targets for our therapy! 🎯
So we want to prevent this situation… using genetics! 🧬 We tackle these proteins before they are even made in the cell by destroying the mRNA molecules using silencing RNAs or siRNAs that carry the information towards building them ❌🤫
Summing up, we block the troubling proteins before they are produced and can trigger the inflammation 🚒 It sounds simple… but there is an important obstacle! 🚧
Our target proteins aren’t just in the intestine… they are everywhere in the body! So it is crucial to carry the therapy to where the disease is! ➡
The “taxi” we use are very small nanocarriers that protect and carry our #siRNA molecules to the intestine 🚕 We also put these nanocarriers into microcapsules to ensure that the therapy arrives intact to the intestine 🎯
