THREAD on AR-15: I’m a US Marine which means I do have some professional experience with guns. Feel free to criticize my position or disagree but please don’t question my military service or knowledge of guns. I served this Nation with my life and I only want the best for it. 1/
I understand people have strong views when it comes to guns. And that’s alright. But at some point we need to have real conversations without all the crazy emotion. Americans are dying and just because it wasn’t you or me this time doesn’t mean it can’t be one of us next time. 2/
I’ve traveled roughly 30 states across America which I’m sure is more than most Americans. I’ve had the chance to see many parts of our country and understand why a gun for self defense at times makes perfect sense. So to be clear I’m not against 2A or anyone owning a gun. 3/
I’m just against civilians having access to same type war like weapon I did as a Marine. You’ll say, “that’s crazy.” But hear me out. The only real difference between my M16 I used as a Marine and AR-15 is my M16 fired nonstop while AR-15 requires pulling trigger every time. 4/
Now some will change the argument from self defense to 2A and forming militias to fight against a so-called hostile government. OK. Now help me understand how you expect to take on all those stealth fighters, F-16’s, drones, tanks, etc. with your AR-15’s? Please keep it real. 5/
If it’s truly about self defense then why an AR-15 which can shoot across 5 football fields? Yes 500 yards or more in certain cases. Essentially you could sit in the comfort of your home and shoot over .25 mile and the person on the other end wouldn’t even know what hit them. 6/
Now to some the AR-15’s long range firing capability may not mean much. But that’s just part of it. The AR-15’s power is meant to do some serious damage and killing (exactly like on the battlefield) — to destroy flesh and practically leave an ‘irreparable’ large exit wound. 7/
Bottom line I (and most for gun reform) don’t take issue with 2A or your ability to have a gun like Lauren Boebert/others would have you believe. So please don’t misunderstand. But a battlefield type weapon should remain on the battlefield — not in the hands of civilians. Why? 8/
Imagine someone having a mental disorder or even someone ‘normal’ suddenly losing their mind. Now imagine them pulling out their ‘legally owned’ AR-15 and going out on a shooting spree taking out countless innocent lives because life unfortunately just doesn’t matter anymore. 9/
Background checks, whether person should’ve had AR-15 or was mentally stable will not have mattered. But the type of weapon ie AR-15 WILL HAVE.

Conclusion: No everyday civilian American should have access to a war like AR-15 weapon. The dangers far out weight any benefits. End/

Rarely do this but I’ve transcribed this clip word for word because it’s too powerful not to. It’s a heart to heart. Watch or read if easier. @esglaude

“America is not unique in its sins as a country. We’re not unique in our evils to be honest with you.
I think where we may be singular is our refusal to acknowledge them and the legends and myths we tell about our inherent goodness to hide, cover and conceal so we can maintain a willful ignorance that protects our innocence.
See the thing is. When the Tea Party was happening we were saying, pundits, oh it’s just about economic populous — it’s not about race.

Very grateful to Jon Stewart and his advocacy for Veterans. The many illness’s Veterans suffer from due to wars in general and the ingestion of toxins is a reality. Here’s a story of my US Marine brother Daniel Medina (front left). We served together and were close friends. 1/
But one main difference between Sergeant Medina and I was, he served in Afghanistan. And he continued to serve after I left but we always remained in touch. He’s next to me on the left. Sergeant Medina continued serving honorably but some years later was diagnosed with cancer. 2/
The moment I found out of his cancer ailment and the danger his life was in, I flew from Baltimore to Orlando to see him. He was heavily medicated and on chemotherapy. It was painful to see him laying in the hospital bed, barely able to move. 3/

THREAD: For the first time ever I retweeted Trump’s disgusting comments on Veterans over and over again. It’s possible some followers may have left because of redundancy of my tweets and feeling annoyed (oh well). But calling my fellow Vets “losers” and “suckers” was too much. 1/
Over the course of this Presidency, I’ve taken a lot of hits including made to feel as if I don’t belong because I’ve chosen Islam as faith. In fact, I’ll never forget when he went on national TV and stated, “Islam hates us.” And then moved forward with a Muslim Ban. Painful. 2/
If you’re not tan skinned or don a black beard like I do you probably won’t understand — let’s just say it’s been a tough 3+ years. Of course being Muslim in America hasn’t helped much either even after having served this Nation as a proud Muslim American US Marine. 3/

THREAD - Ten things my kids want you to know about Muslims (verbatim):

1.) Muslims are NOT terrorists. We have nothing to do with terrorists, ISIS or any person that does something bad.

1/
Please don’t say F*** Allah. Because the English translation for Allah is God. And I feel offended when you say that.

2/
Muslims are good people. We’re just like everyone else. We like to play games like Xbox, PlayStation, board games, football, etc. We are human.

POWERFUL THREAD: My sister a Police Officer opens up on George Floyd. She’s not on Twitter so took her words from FB & posted here.

“Several friends & family have reached out to me the past few days about the George Floyd killing/death by the officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
People expressing their concerns with heavy hearts, anger, sadness and frustration about racial injustice, police brutality, distrust for police, our broken systems etc. I don’t like to comment on cases without having all the research/facts.
At times many incidents presented in society or by the media are not the full factual story. Often times we see bits and pieces of information involving propaganda and fueling political agendas or ulterior motives by certain groups.
