Mike Pesca was “suspended indefinitely without pay” (aka fired?) from @Slate for making the exact same argument I made on the podcast two weeks ago. The reason I can make that argument without fear of losing my job is because of our patrons. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/blo…
When institutions are increasingly controlled by wannabe dictators and weak managers who can’t stand up to them, the only way out of this mess is supporting independent creators. Our patrons are our lifeline.

I don’t know what’s going to happen to Mike but the future of media is not @Slate and its army of censors and scolds. If Mike goes independent, I’ll support him, and if you’re a Slate Plus member, I encourage you to consider giving that money to creators who actually deserve it.

This is truly shocking, even for @Slate defector.com/mike-pesca-sla…
Suspended from JOURNALISM for making a valid argument. Unbelievable.
@pescami is a fantastic reporter, commentator, and interviewer and was the only person at Slate still worth listening to.

Interesting perspective but this guy seems to think his way of viewing the world should be imposed on his patients whether or not they want it. washingtonpost.com/outlook/2021/0…
I’m guessing the vast majority of this country would respond to the pronoun question with confusion if not offense. But this doctor seems to think nearly everyone should be made uncomfortable to accommodate a tiny percentage of the population. How is this a good plan?
Here’s what I’d do... if you must play the pronoun game, put it on the intake form with a giant OPTIONAL tag. Otherwise, just go with biological sex. You’ll probably be correct.

I have got to find something to listen to besides NPR. I was trying to go back to sleep after taking my wife to the ferry this AM and heard the host of Morning Edition say. “We’ve lost so many lives to corona virus and police brutally.” Only one of those things is true.
The host didn’t specify what she meant by “police brutality” but 46 unarmed people were shot and killed by police in 2020. 16 of them were black. That’s out of a nation of 330 million people and millions of police encounters a year. It’s a fraction of a fraction of a fraction.
I don’t say this because I have any love for cops (I don’t) but because the job of the media is to accurately reflect what is happening in the world, and this ain’t it. No wonder people think we have a giant, racist police killing problem! That’s what they are told.

If you need me I’ll be reading this article and banging my head against a wall theatlantic.com/technology/arc…
I wonder if the journalist informed her subject that she was going to be writing about her with utter distain or if that was a surprise
She left out the part where Burns got fired from her journalism job for libeling another journalist

Moose was acting very lethargic and his belly was swollen so I put him on the toilet and tried my new Hello Tushy Modern Bidet Attachment™️ and presto! Totally fine. Let that be a lesson.
Actually I gave him pumpkin purée and made a vet appointment but the Hello Tushy Modern Bidet Attachment™️ really is great hellotushy.com/barpod

I got surprisingly little pushback from my piece in Andrew Sullivan's newsletter from a few weeks ago. I really thought this one was going to explode some heads but every single message I got was supportive. andrewsullivan.substack.com/p/where-have-a…
Andrew got a bunch of feedback as well, and almost all of it was supportive too. You can read some here:
