The history of marginalized people's struggle for liberation is the history of those marginalized groups being internally divided into the good one's and the bad one's by those in power.
This history manages to do harm to both the said "good ones" and their "bad" counterparts.
For the bad one's, it obviously makes them an easy scapegoat and often makes members of their community turn on them. For an example of this, look at how some straight passing/masculine gay men talk about more effeminate or flamboyant gay men.
For the good one's, it forces them into a role of constant performance. They are no longer allowed to be their authentic selves freely, but instead are turned into props for the maintenance of the status quo. The instant they deviate from acceptable behavior, they are cast aside.
They can also become targets of resentment from the bad ones within their community due to their place of contextual privilege.
The history of internally dividing marginalized groups is incredibly rich and continues to be a tool of psychological domination used on us to this day.

the Soc dem left lexi discourse confirms one of my fears about the ways we have generally argued for queer liberation.
Historically, the argument has revolved around whether or not being gay or trans is a choice. This rhetorical device made it easy to compare queer liberation to the civil rights movement, which likely played a central role in increasing queer acceptance.
Despite its effectiveness, this argument in some ways obscures the full purpose of queer liberation and largely to the detriment of certain kinds of queer people.
I think a lot of authentic leftists have warped perspectives on right libertarians, likely because they don't spend any time in right libertarian spaces (the reverse is also true, but that's not important rn).
Like, there is this idea that libertarians are mostly weed liking conservatives, but honestly, based on my interactions with them it really isn't that simple.
For example many libertarians are authentically anti-bigotry. I've known many libertarians who are more socially progressive than liberals/self described progressives.
