2/8 Our roadways🛣️became⚠️MORE dangerous⚠️last year, even as the number of miles driven DECREASED 📉dramatically due to the pandemic.😷 For more injuryfacts.nsc.org/motor-vehicle/…
3/8 Preliminary @NSCsafety estimates show that, in the first 11 months of 2020, 38,370 Americans died on our roads. Even one is too many, which is why we're working with @RoadToZeroUS to achieve ZERO roadway deaths by 2050. Learn more: nsc.org/road-safety/ge…
4/8 These 38,370 American lives lost in the first 11 mos. of 2020 represents an astounding 7% increase over the same period of 2019 — and a tragic reversal of pre-pandemic safety trends, when our roads were becoming SAFER for drivers.💔We can and must do better.
5/8 As we work to improve #safety, it is essential that we also address #equity in our nation’s #transportation system. Because, too often, safety is the privilege of a few, not a right enjoyed equitably by all.
6/8 @NSCsafety encourages the Subcommittee to consider these four points in any future legislation to address equity in transportation safety enforcement here ⤵️
