TODAY: Civil rights leaders, including @Sifill_LDF, are demanding federal action to reform our nation’s police departments. This starts with passing the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act & bringing an end to qualified immunity.
"We have seen the officer who killed Eric Garner & the one who killed Philando Castile, and the one who killed Terence Crutcher, & the one who killed Tamir Rice, and those responsible for the death of Freddie Gray...& Breonna Taylor...were not held accountable for those deaths."
"[Qualified immunity's] interpretation by courts has become so distorted that it routinely insulates police officers from liability in cases in which they slam innocent residents to the ground causing brain damage, shot bystanders, or killed innocent Black men..."--@Sifill_LDF
The Act shifts the criminal intent standard of Section 242, which will make it easier to prosecute law enforcement officers engaging in deadly misconduct by lowering the criminal intent standard--an essential step in holding law enforcement accountable for violating this statute.
"When Officer Chauvin looks into the camera as he kills George Floyd, he is looking at us. He is daring us to prove him wrong. And we're calling on Congress to prove him wrong and move forward the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act." --@Sifill_LDF

"The idea of allowing these lies and the kind of Trumpist way of speaking to cascade into what becomes normal is really dangerous. It moves the line so that the outrages no longer depend on the presence of Mr. Trump, they then exist as part of our new normal." --@Sifill_LDF
"Part of the rule of law is restoring the Department of Justice to its role in protecting civil rights, things like voter suppression...Part of the reset we have to do of this big lie is...starting afresh with a new way of embracing what our obligations are to uphold democracy."

"[Kamala Harris] will be the first Black woman vice president, the first vice president of South Asian descent. This is incredibly historic and really important...Even as history is being made, we are returning, in the US Senate, to a very grim look at representation..."
"It's important to remember that many people who would normally participate in a day of service today are not doing so because of the COVID-19 pandemic. And this will be one of the first and most important things for the President and Vice President-Elect to confront."

.@Sifill_LDF on our #USPS suit: We focused on the transportation decisions that the new Postmaster General made. We wanted to make sure every ballot would be delivered...We're still fighting to get every ballot delivered even after the process.
"There was an order that was presented by the Judge that required the Postal Service to do sweeps throughout the day...In the evening, the Postal Service let it be known that they had not done the sweeps...Obviously, we were very distressed about this."
