London Mayoral election has always attracted its fair share of fringe candidates but it's undoubtedly a bumper year.
And I'm sorry but I refuse to believe this one is real.
Good to see Winston is keeping himself busy. Lost track of how many times and parties he's stood for
Some of these people - notably Bin Face will be standing for the serious purpose of losing. But Dunning Kruger teaches us that the rest, probably genuinely believe they're in with a shot.
I've taken the images from BBC - full list here
bbc.com/news/uk-englan…
And it looks like Farage's Reform party aren't standing anyone. Which is a bit weird.

The absolutely extraordinary story of 'Douglas Berneville-Claye" - fantasist, bigamist, Nazi collaborator and member of the SAS.
news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/189894…
I've long been fascinated with the story of the traitor Harry Cole (not the Sun journalist) who caused such havoc in wartime France - but this story is on an equally fascinating level. These are the war stories we don't hear because they don't fit the narrative...

Sunak wants to be PM. That's it. That's his overarching ambition and it drives all that he does. We need fewer politicians who want to be PM and more who actually want to do something worthwhile and useful. That's my hot take on Sunak. And indeed the entire cabinet.
I bet you even Gavin Williamson dreams of waving at the front door of Number 10 as he drifts off to sleep at night. In his BHS night cap and ill matching pyjamas.
Apparently Sunak is on record saying he doesn't want to be PM.... now if only there was an example of someone who had said the same

The UK has just 25 statues to women who were not Queens or Princesses. A staggering statistic. And now the government is seeking to erect 1,700 new statues to (mostly male) war heroes reducing the ratio even further.
theguardian.com/culture/2021/f…
That would mean that just 1.5% of British statues would be to women.
This seems to be an initiative of the "Common Sense Group". That curious band of Tory MPs who have nothing better to do with their time than lament the passing of Victor Comic Britain

Me for Byline Times on the government's war on woke and the great "free speech paradox." And more - why we should be worried.
bylinetimes.com/2021/02/17/the…
Written yesterday before a great debate descended into my timeline.
As I keep stressing I think the government's target is control of history, control of the narrative and division. They need a new front. I accept other aspects are at play.

Can you please give us solid examples of where free speech has been curtailed.

You mention "an increased number of individuals being silenced" but I cannot find a single one. Thank you.
It's a real request @GavinWilliamson - I've written a piece on this for @bylinetimes and it's out tomorrow. I can find not a single example of free speech being curtailed. Can you please give us solid examples
In fact just one example is good

I watched the 1974 remake of Brief Encounter today. It's just as good as the original, only without the warmth, direction, cinematography, Celia Howard, Rachmaninoff, claustrophobia and beauty of the original.
In one memorable sequence, Sophia Loren gets off a train onto a platform marked "Winchester" and then is seen leaving the station with the word Brockenhurst over the exit.
I've put "Celia Howard" there because my brain now hurts
