4 Steps To Becoming The Most Effective Leader Ever
//THREAD\\
I want to take you through my 4 step process to use in any work or project situation to help you become an effective leader.
This process has benefits outside of work in your day-to-day life as well.
I call it S.I.M.S:
Simplify
Inspire
Move
Support
Before we dive into the 4 steps, I wanted to share a quote that exemplifies what leadership is
"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader" -John Quincy Adams
This quote doesn't portray leadership as giving directions...
Leadership is about taking action in your own life.
It's about the actions that you take and what you do that make you a leader.
Anytime I enter a new work environment I use the 4 steps of S.I.M.S. and turn leadership into a game I win.
Let's dive into the components...
1) Simplify
"If you can't explain it to a 6-year-old, you don't understand it yourself" -Albert Einstein.
This is my number one key activity that every leader, not only in the corporate setting but entrepreneurs as well, needs to learn.
You should simplify the work...
At the end of the day, there's only ever really around five key activities that are moving your team or organization forward; you need to find them.
You should focus on the key drivers and then simplify, simplify, simplify so that everyone understands what they need to do.
2) Inspire
"There are only two ways to influence human behaviour: you can manipulate it or you can inspire it" -Simon Sinek
Managers manage people, leaders inspire people, and motivate people by giving them a vision, and taking them on a development journey...
They help them become better and transform, then transcend the role that they are in, so they can move on to something bigger and not necessarily in the same organization.
A lot of managers focus on the data and forget about the people.
You need to help and inspire people.
3) Move
"Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results" -George S. Patton.
M is Move out of the way!
Give your team instructions, and let them do the work,
Follow rule 1 here, keep the directions simple and move away.
I can't even count how many managers I have worked under or have seen give directions and then constantly follow up and remain hyper-involved in the process.
Micromanaging is really bad and the curse of modern-day management.
Please don't do it; step away give your team space.
4) Support
"A good objective of leadership is to help those who are doing poorly to do well and to help those who are doing well to do even better" -Jim Rohn
Support your team when they need you.
Don't over support them, and don't under support them...
Often, managers can get in the weeds focussing on the underperformers, and ignore their high performers.
Higher performers feel neglected, and underperformers feel micromanaged.
This unbalances a team, you need to use all 4 steps to create a comfortable environment to work in.
By making your team comfortable and inspired to work you create a culture of excellence.
You are increasing their autonomy, allowing them to better focus on their work, and creating the opportunity for them to master their craft.
You are preparing them to move on and up, perhaps even to replace you when you move on, which gives them purpose because they see a future in the organization.
This is what effective leaders do; they create more effective leaders.
Following these steps will help you be effective in your day-to-day
Simplify your life as much as you can
Inspire yourself daily
Move out of your own way, get out of your head
Support yourself, be healthy, sleep, exercise
The best leaders are mentally and physically strong.

To frame these points, I wanted to share this quote:
"A leadership culture is one where everyone thinks like an owner, a CEO, or a managing director. It's one where everyone is entrepreneurial and proactive."
- Robin S. Sharma
1) Develop rituals and systems
All successful people have systems and rituals; this helps to provide a structure to your days
Making you focus on things you’re working on, if it’s important to you, you need to create a ritual around it.
