@PSC_CUNY this needs be central to our organizing towards strike readiness and building solidarity with students & just practicing what we preach. All forms of surveillance & policing students needs to come to a full stop & stat, & we need to find ways to give more care & stat!
This is what we mean when we say our organizing spaces need to prioritize care among each other too & stop with the control & lines of command & competition among each other. We NEED to support each other. Depression & mental health concerns among students
& probably most of us workers too (maybe depending on the discipline?) seem astronomically high rn. No one is okay. We need to organize for our collective survival & to transform this world, & we need to care for each other to get there.
And just bc like why wouldn’t u ever simply prioritize care and minimizing harm in all of its forms?! Is this not why we must strike? To fight for cuny to serve the people in the face of racist austerity & stripping down to bare life conditions of education?
Also above maybe it’s depending on a person’s politics not the discipline and maybe that applies to students too. But the gist is that we are NOT okay and we MUST prioritize kindness and respect and honesty and conflict resolution towards deeper understandings across our diffs.
And yes there *is* such thing as actual kindness & respect & honesty that’s *not* just more liberal bullshit (like rainbows on police cars & actual tone policing of ppl in critique of white supremacy culture).
And it is unendingly alarming that this world has become so bleak that ppl think that actual kindness is a myth & impossible to attempt to obtain in our organizing spaces!
If we cannot practice what we preach at home, how the hell are we going to build a movement based on those corrupted values?!? So please #fundcunynotcops & don’t be a damn cop, be a caregiver in all the ways u can manage including to ourselves
Sharing from ARC:
We want to learn more about Brooklyn College community members’ experiences with anti-Blackness, white supremacy and racism. You can anonymously share your experiences on this survey: tinyurl.com/BCTestimonialF… #CUNYsummerofstruggle
ARC reps faculty and staff and students in every aspect of Brooklyn College except higher administration & recognizes shared struggles to create a more diverse college that we all deserve. The dismantling of white supremacy requires resources. ARC demands systemic changes.
⚠️The PSC has received notice from CUNY that 422 adjuncts currently covered by adjunct health insurance will lose their eligibility for health insurance for the fall 2020 semester as a result of a reduction in hours or a non-reappointment. —- 55 are adjuncts at @BklynCollege411⚠️
As the university likes to celebrate, we are the largest urban public university system in the country. Many students are first-gen, with migrant status, working class, and people of color.
And NYC has been one of the covid19 epicenters.
CUNY workers & students were already overworked & underfunded *before* the pandemic. Then @CUNY proposed massive cuts to fall classes & workers, & enacted a tuition hike & mental health fee. Learn more abt class cuts at @BklynCollege411: tinyurl.com/cutcovidnotcuny#cutcovidnotcuny
NYC is one of the epicenters of police violence & terror to Black folks, including on CUNY campuses and with CUNY support (👀@JohnJayCollege in particular).
