But we've been representing families inside of Karnes for years & can pretty much call BS on this.

For the past 3 years we’ve observed up close countless & frequent policy changes directly impacting the lives of people seeking safety, imprisoned by our gov't.

Meanwhile, thousands of people at the border (specifically Black folks) are being deported under #Title42, which the Biden Administration has yet to rescind, and allows the quick expulsion of immigrants because of the #COVID19 pandemic.

Judging from past experience, it will be extremely difficult for ICE to keep its own promise of detaining people for just 3 days.
Why? They regularly ask us & other community orgs to help buy travel tickets, find shelter, and contact family sponsors for the families detained.

We have clients who’ve been incarcerated by ICE for over 2+ years. Airports are able to process millions of people quickly, w/full security checks AND get them to their destination.
There should be no difference. Just more urgency in these cases.

For as long as it takes to #AbolishICE, they need to spend less money on incarcerating migrant for the crime of seeking refuge and more money getting people to their families safely.

ANY amount of imprisonment of children is detrimental to their health & development.
3 days of uniformed guards slamming doors, barking orders, and waking them at random times throughout the day is 3 days too much.

As long as the 3 family prisons are open, children & their parents will remain incarcerated.
Kids will continue to be in cages.
With these prisons functional we run the risk of returning to deportations & prolonged detention.
