1. At the urging of Trump, GOP legislators are introducing hundreds of bills to restrict voting

Today, the Supreme Court considers a case that could obliterate what's left of the Voting Rights Act — the last line of defense against voter suppression

popular.info/p/mcconnell-as…
2. In 2013, Chief Justice John Roberts crippled the voting rights act by gutting Section 5, which required pre-clearance of voting changes in areas with a history of discrimination

But discriminatory changes are still illegal under Section 2

popular.info/p/mcconnell-as…
3. The case was actually filed by the Democratic Party, challenging two changes to Arizona voting procedures.

But now, McConnell and others are urging the Court to use the case as a way undermine the rest of the VRA and greenlight voter suppression

popular.info/p/mcconnell-as…
4. In an amicus brief, McConnell, Cruz and others say that states should be free to make any "time, place, and manner" changes to voting procedures regardless of how they impact communities of color

popular.info/p/mcconnell-as…
5. McConnell and others urge the court to disregard any "statistical racial disparity"

That means, for example, a proposal in Georgia to end early voting on Sundays - when many Black voters cast their ballots - would be fine

popular.info/p/mcconnell-as…
6. McConnell says that these kind of restrictions are necessary to "prevent and deter fraud."

Like Trump, McConnell provides no evidence to support this claim.

That's probably because there is no evidence.

popular.info/p/mcconnell-as…
7. These are VERY BAD legal arguments that McConnell is making but with a 6-3 conservative majority he might get his way.

1. Last week the US finally acknowledged the TRUTH: That Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) ordered the murder of US-based journalist Jamal Khashoggi

But there were not CONSEQUENCES for MBS

What gives?

popular.info/p/truth-withou…
2. One major factor, IMO, is money.

MBS controls Saudi's $400 billion sovereign wealth fund.

He has a plan to build it up to $1T.

That makes MBS a valued partner of many powerful corporations.

3. In 2018, shortly after Khashoggi's murder, many US companies boycotted MBS' annual conference, known as "Davos in the Desert"

When the event was held again this January, almost all were back.

The facts hadn't changed but the money is irresistible.

If Cuomo names the person who conducts the investigation, it’s not an independent investigation. It’s Cuomo investigating himself.
Update: Cuomo has dropped the plan of picking his own investigator. Asked NY's Attorney General and Chief Judge to select someone. Seems like a better approach.

I will note that one of the two people involved here, the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, is appointed by Cuomo. The AG is elected.

"A second former aide to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is accusing him of sexual harassment, saying that he asked her questions about her sex life, whether she was monogamous in her relationships and if she had ever had sex with older men."

nytimes.com/2021/02/27/nyr…
"The aide, Charlotte Bennett, who was an executive assistant and health policy adviser in the Cuomo administration until she left in November, told The NYT that the governor had harassed her late last spring, during the height of the state’s fight against the coronavirus."
She said Cuomo asked "whether she thought age made a difference in romantic relationships, and had said that he was open to relationships with women in their 20s — comments she interpreted as clear overtures to a sexual relationship."
