1. Last week the US finally acknowledged the TRUTH: That Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) ordered the murder of US-based journalist Jamal Khashoggi

But there were not CONSEQUENCES for MBS

2. One major factor, IMO, is money.

MBS controls Saudi's $400 billion sovereign wealth fund.

He has a plan to build it up to $1T.

That makes MBS a valued partner of many powerful corporations.

3. In 2018, shortly after Khashoggi's murder, many US companies boycotted MBS' annual conference, known as "Davos in the Desert"

When the event was held again this January, almost all were back.

The facts hadn't changed but the money is irresistible.

4. Until he was confirmed as SecState in January, Blinken was running WestExec Advisors. Blinken helped large corporations navigate the world.

Among his clients were many companies that have major business with Saudi Arabia: @uber, @microsoft, @SoftBank

5. Blinken resigned from his role at WestExec and is selling his stake in the company. It's not that he will personally profit. But he has spent years looking out for the interests of big corporations. He's acutely aware of the impact of alienating MBS

The sponsors of the legislation are backed by millions in corporate cash — including money from @CocaCola, @Delta, and @UPS

Today, the Supreme Court considers a case that could obliterate what's left of the Voting Rights Act — the last line of defense against voter suppression

2. In 2013, Chief Justice John Roberts crippled the voting rights act by gutting Section 5, which required pre-clearance of voting changes in areas with a history of discrimination

But discriminatory changes are still illegal under Section 2

But now, McConnell and others are urging the Court to use the case as a way undermine the rest of the VRA and greenlight voter suppression

If Cuomo names the person who conducts the investigation, it’s not an independent investigation. It’s Cuomo investigating himself.
Update: Cuomo has dropped the plan of picking his own investigator. Asked NY's Attorney General and Chief Judge to select someone. Seems like a better approach.

I will note that one of the two people involved here, the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, is appointed by Cuomo. The AG is elected.

"A second former aide to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is accusing him of sexual harassment, saying that he asked her questions about her sex life, whether she was monogamous in her relationships and if she had ever had sex with older men."

She said Cuomo asked "whether she thought age made a difference in romantic relationships, and had said that he was open to relationships with women in their 20s — comments she interpreted as clear overtures to a sexual relationship."
