Liikuttaako? A report for the survey on physical activity for persons with a disability (n=1213) and the related survey conducted with sports clubs (n=334) has been published @FinnParalympic in cooperation with @ltsfi . Here are some key findings in English (1/9): Image
The majority (65%) of PWD were female. PWD were categorised into age groups (18 and below; 19–29; 30–64; 65+). 2/3 belonged to group 30–64 yrs. Most popular activity groups were private, other sports associations (not sport clubs!), and municipal groups. (2/9)
50% of PWD had to reduce physical activity and exercise due to #covid19; 70% move less than is recommended; 65% would like to move more. The cost, lack of an exercise partner or group, disability or state of health and fear of coronavirus were biggest barriers. (3/9)
A minority of PWD do not support inclusion or strongly support separate groups. The majority see the open-to-all activities of sports clubs as an opportunity to gain wider and more diverse offerings. It's not enough to be allowed to join in, you need to feel welcome too. (4/9)
Out of 314 sports clubs or associations 66% organise adaptive activity, disability sport or have people with disabilities involved. Activities are organised in specific, targeted groups for PWD and in general (open-to-all) groups and recreational environments. (5/9)
Only 10% of sports clubs have persons with disabilities as instructors, coaches or volunteers.

The clubs need support in finding instructors, volunteers, target groups and sponsors, as well as in matters related to facilities. (6/9)
Conclusion I/1.Sometimes inclusion just happens. In reality it requires measures and systematic support at both the local and national levels.
2. Locally: Clubs should take steps to remove barriers to persons with disabilities joining in. (7/9)
Conclusion II/ 3. Locally: Municipalities should direct their subsidies to non-discriminatory clubs. 4. Nationally: All sports organisations, such as NGO’s should review their equality programmes from the perspective of the #CRPD. (8/9)
Conclusion III/ Last note:
From the perspective of #CRPD and #choice, both mainstream and separate activities are important. BUT equal opportunities for PWD to participate in general activities must be the starting point for future development of #adaptedphysicalactivity.
