0/ Decision Making 101

The most successful people are able to make the best decisions.

In this thread, you will learn how to improve your decision making👇🧵
1/ I never thought of decision making as something that could be learned.

Throughout life, I have been programmed to think of decision making as a pros and cons exercise where I source a lot of people's opinions and choose the one that is most favorable
2/ Decision making is much more than pros/cons lists

It is something that can be learned over time.

Your ability to make effective decisions is a muscle you can build.

3/ Before we get into how to become a BETTER decision maker, let's think about what would make us a WORSE decision maker

~inversion~

This thread by @ShaneAParrish outlines the 5 biggest reasons we fail to make the right decisions

4/ So how can you make better decisions?

How do the best in the world make the best decisions?

What is the ONE thing you can do to be right more times than you are wrong?

I'll tell you, but first, a quick explanation on why decision making is so valuable.
5/ Successful people are able to make the best decisions over and over agin.

Making better decisions will make you...

1. wealthier
2. healthier
3. happier

6/ Those who make better decisions are wealthier.

The portfolio manager who averages 15% is worth more than the portfolio manager who averages 10%.
7/ Those who make better decisions are healthier.

The people who decide to develop a habit to workout are healthier than those who do not.

h/t @dbustac for building Fit Creator Club with me!
8/ Those who make better decisions are happier.

The people who decide to drop a toxic relationships are happier than those who do not.
9/ Those who make the right decisions are wealthier, healthier, and happier.

But how do they make the "right" decisions?

Two words...

Mental Models.
10/ Great decision makers use mental models to make decisions.

Mental models are ways in which we perceive the world. They shape our thinking and mold our experiences.

Overtime, we can develop a toolkit of mental models to help guide our decision making.
11/ The thing is, there are hundreds of mental models. Which are the ones that will make you a better decision maker?

The 3 most effective mental models for decision making are:

1. Inversion
2. Second order thinking
3. The map is not the territory
12/ Inversion is thinking about the ways you would not get something, so you can ultimately get what you want
